Rattray Red Reparee

Finally cleaned out the rotation enough to justify opening a tin of the RRR. This was a 100g tin, that I have had in the cellar for about 6 months.

First impression - the tin was really full. Buying flakes I had gotten used to the look of a 1/2 full tin.

Nice fine ribbon cut, moisture almost perfect. Nice lat smell, reminds me somewhat of 965 - less campfire and spicier.

Packs very easy - basic 3 stage. Seems to respond well to a nice even char - what doesn't... Easy to smoke, stays lit, medium nic - there are some very nice spicy hints once things get going.

This could easily become a favorite - I intend to buy a few more tins.. I would like to get a few years on this and see what's what.

It's a really nice blend on the spicy oriental side not the latakia smoky side, even though I like latakia.

Re: Rattray Red Reparee

i've always wanted to try this, and i think i've had a 100g tin sitting in the cellar for about a year now... just haven't gotten around to it yet. maybe when my hankering for anything with Latakia comes back, which may be a decade or so, who knows.

i'm not surprised at the review, everything else i've had by K&K has been excellent.

Two pounds of it in the cellar, 4 oz in my tobacco jar. It's been a favorite of mine for a couple of decades now. Glad you enjoyed it.

Re: Rattray Red Reparee

this is one of my favorite smokes. there's minimal latakia in it, i'd classify it as an oriental blends more than an english. the oriental is what i taste most, w/what tastes like red VA's floating in & out. good stuff.
