I used to smoke Dunhill back in the early 60s. The main difference is that the tobaccos were more fermented and more aged. When you opened a tin the accordion pleated paper inside would be stained brown. The one that has changed the most from those early days is Royal Yacht. It tasted completely different back then, but I can't explain why. The newest imports taste the same as those that were around just prior to them withdrawing from the US market. Of course, there are quite a few blends that were available in the 60s that are not now like Elizabethan and Mr Alfred's Own.
Those that know don't tell, and those that tell don't know.
