RE: What Kind of Work You In?
I work for an engineering consulting firm here in the city that does consulting Mechanical/Structural/Piping/Electrical/Petro-Chemical/Civil and Geological engineering. I do AutoCAD drafting/design, mainly in the mechanical/structural end of things, but my range has started to spread into piping. The hours are great, get 1/2 day Friday off, no weekends and a great boss who cares a LOT about his employees. I have been doing CAD now for 5 years and worked for this particular firm I am with now for about 7 months now. Before that, I worked for Cargill, Inc. in their engineering office doing much of the same.

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
I just realized that I never responded to this post. I own an indoor environmental cleaning company. We specialize in structural mold remediation and mechanical hygiene. We clean up "sick buildings".
I am what I am.

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
Well, since I'm new, I'm about to enter my fourth year as an aviation officer in the Army. It's not horribly encouraging to my smoking habits, but the job's a whole lot of fun.

sgoselin,
Do you tell your clients that cigar smoke would help the integrity of their structures? LOL Just kidding. Thanks for sharing with us. ... rjs |

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
Do you use primarily 3d (Mechanical Desktop) or 2d (AutoCAD) in your line of work?

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
rjs, there is actually a theory being touted by a certain PhD that contends that one of the reasons for an increase in microbial contamination in HVAC systems stems from the cessation of smoking in buildings. He feels that the nicotine in ductwork serves as a biocide.
I am what I am.

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
Some of the machines use mechanical desktop, some use regular 2d. For all the structural stuff, they use a program called Strap that shows them 3d infrared images for wind loading and weight tensions, etc. I use ACAD 2000i for most of my work. But have dabbled in the 3d end of things...

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
sgoselin,
We can volunteer for an experiment to further the research. Even the anti-smoking crowd would have to go along with the idea of more research! We'll volunteer to occupy a building for a few days, but actually call all the LLG's to have a herf. I can almost guarantee that we'd kill anything that needs oxygen. LOL (We might cause an outbreak of anaerobic bacteria.) ... rjs |

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
For those who haven't read Duc's thread on this same forum, I work as GM for a scuba diving outfit in the Philippines. I'm also a diving instructor but don't teach and get to dive as often I used to since most of the time I'm in the office.

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
I've been in the computer industry for over 17 years (after a 5 year stint in the Navy). I'm currently a Sr. Network Engineer for a mid-sized manufacturing company up here in the Detroit, MI area.

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
I've seen this thread for some time, but resisted posting for one reason or another. Anyway, I am a Mechanical Engineer by education and am the Test Engineer in charge of the Lab for a major filter company.

RE: What Kind of Work You In?
Well... I don't really do any 'real' work at the moment. I currently just work through a temporary agency. I have finished a degree in biology and spent a couple years applying to vet school, but have decided to go in a different direction. I am planning on going back to school in the fall for another degree in Mech. engineering at Georgia Tech. I'm aiming for the auto specialty industry, but will play it by ear when the time comes.
