For women and perhaps overall IMO Annie Lennox trumps Annie Willson for vocal chops no disrespect. Pat Benatar actual had a monster voice too. I got to throw an nod to Bonica Butthole of Betty Blowtorch not trained but big and ball shaking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxSNANQ89W8

For men some great ones Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Meatloaf etc... hard to argue with. I don't know some of the harder/speed/death/etc... metal folks.

A couple greats unmentioned Lou Gramm of Foreigner and The Motor City Mad man Ted Nugent

Re: The STRONGEST voice in rock and roll

I'd say...

Rob Halford
Dave Grohl
Russell Allen
Brian Johnson
and Dio... but I would have to say that the best voice in all of Rock would have to be:

Re: The STRONGEST voice in rock and roll

So many but one guy I must give props to is Jimmy Barnes. A little known Aussie singer who fronted a band called Cold Chisel in the 80's and had a minor hit with a Michael Hutchence dou called "Good Times" (possibly on the "Lost Boys" soundtack.

Search out the song "You got nothing I want" by Cold Chisel and see what I mean.

Another monster voice that slipped between the cracks was William Topley (The Blessing) The released a magical album in 1990 called "Prince of the Deep Water" do yourself a favor and buy it, borrow it or steal it! Truly amazing stuff. http://www.amazon.com/Prince-Of-The-.../dp/B000W27AAO

Also loved Roland Gift (Fine Young Cannibals) and Jimmy Sommerville (Communards & Bronski Beat) although they were more pop.

Elvis (60's) Daltry, Plant & Gillan (70's) Bono (80's) Kobain & Cornell (90's) 2K (I'll let u know in 6 years)

If I had to pick just one person I would have to go with the Godfather of Metal, Mr. Ronnie James Dio. He is going to be 67 this year and can still blow you away.
