Ian Gillan Band - Scarabus

If you listen to Black Sabbath's Born Again album and Scarabus back to back you'd find it very interesting I'd wager

I don't know. They are represented on MySpace, but other than that, I've not heard about touring or new music in ten years. Ever get into Leon Russell or Joe Cocker?

One of my faves was Rock and Roll Hooch Koo by Rick Derringer, Mountain, Uriah Heap, Judas Priest.

I don't know how old you are, but out birthdays are within three weeks. My first concert was Van Morrison at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Ca. They made it into an album. So, if you know that album, you can figure out that I am in my 50s. I also saw Rick Derringer and Foghat in one show.

So now I ask, What were your favorite concerts. Maybe we should start this as a thread.

Good picks Bob, but Thin Lizzy's album was a monster... it was huge and still sells well today.

Big Audio Dynamite on the other hand... Couldn't agree more! An amazing blend of 1 part hip-hop (before there was hip-hop) 1 part Reggae and 2 parts Clash! That debut album is also on my "Standed on an Island" list!

Social D? Awesome!

Here'a a couple more for ya'll...

Black Grape "It's Great when your Straight" ('95) Sort of like Big Audio, killer hooks, fat-ass rhythm section, great female bg vocals, you'll wanna' dance!

Chris Whitley "Livin' with the Law" ('91) Sadly Chris succumbed to cancer in '99 and not one to release the same sounding album twice his "Livin' with the Law" has a haunting beauty all of it's own, highlighted by his pleading vocals and Dobro steel-bodied flat-top that he hammed at like Townsend.

The Beat Farmers (their entire catalog) This San Diego 4 piece covered well over a million miles in an old van and played coast to coast in Canada and the US... seldom playing to more that 300 or 400 at a time. Those shows were all small clubs packed to rafters. They loved to play and they loved to party. Met them many times and they become great friends.

Nearly 10 albums to their credit with "The Pursuit of Happiness" being their finest hour.

Twin lead guitars of Gerry Raney and Joey Harris (both great singers too) worked voodoo together and the biker-punk bass of Rolle Love made for a wall of sound.

Their 6 foot 6'' drummer and sometimes frontman with the booming voice ("Country" Dick Montana) juggled full bottles of open Bud, paraded around the stage with an inflatable sheep and would always enlist the biggest patron in the house to carry him around the bar on his shoulders to the point of exhaustion. The Farmers played a blend of rock and country laced with comedy. Sadly, they were never adopted by either rock or country radio. Amazing on record and at their finest at their drunkest live! Dick collapsed of a massive heart attack on stage during an ecore to a full house in Whistler BC in 1999.

He died with his boots on.

RIP Chris
RIP Dick

I truly hope at least one of you on this forum finds some of the magic I have with any of these lost treasures.

Re: Greatest albums that slipped between the cracks...

Lexxus,
I took your advice on the Eat CD and The Blessing, and ordered them used from Amazon for $5 each. I would have bought the Screaming Blue Messiahs as well, but the CD costs more than a box of Opus X!! Thanks for the info. Also, the Beat Farmers were great indeed. I saw them at a dive bar in Mission Beach back in the day. They played for hours and hours.
