Greatest albums that slipped between the cracks...
Someone had a great post about the greatest rock singers of all time and it prompted me to make this post:
What are your ultimate fave albums that slipped between the cracks and never garnered the success they deserved? I have many but here are 3 (all from the mid-late 80's) (The Blessing) They released a magical album in 1990 called "Prince of the Deep Water" do yourself a favor and buy it, borrow it or steal it! Truly amazing stuff. Haunting and magical. Also a band simply called EAT and their album "Sell me a God" Scarce & deleted since about '89. Trippy and catchy beyond belief. And finally (The Screaming Blue Messiahs) "Gun Shy" '86. If released today it would take the industry by storm. Chainsaw rock with incredible melody (was blown away to hear a track in the closing credits of an episode of "Recue Me: a few years back) Denis Leary's stock went waaay up with me after hearing the track "Wild Blue Yonder" close the show. I was lucky enough to be a rock deejay at a great station back then and was sad that these albums never "made it" Got to play them an still spin them to this day. Oh, One more... The Call "Reconciled" '86. Michael Been's voice is a thing of beauty and the velvet pounding of the rhythm section lands it on my "stranded on an Island" list. Every song a rare jewel. They re-captured the magic one last time with the title track to 1989's "Let the Day Begin" I've seen it bring tears to the eyes of people who "get it" We'll see how this thread goes... Hope I've created a monster here. Thanks for your time! Lx |

Hoping these meet the qualifications:
Montrose - "Montrose" Local H - "As Good as Dead" Puddle of Mudd - "Come Clean" The first and third had some commercial success, but I think they did slip through the cracks for the vast majority.

With the exception of POM(A Band I just despise), I agree. Infact, I think most of Local H's stuff fell through, including their lastest album 12 Angry Months. Super underrated band.

Re: Greatest albums that slipped between the cracks...
The albums that slipped through the cracks for me were:
Be Bop Delux -"Axe Victom" This album came out in the 70s during the time I was into the "Import" music. You know progressive. Singer and Guitarist Bill Nelson had some riffs that were way a head of the others. He palyed leads that were reversed scale progressions that were amazing. Brian Eno, "HereCome the Warm Jets" featuring Baby's on Fire. Eno had left Roxy Music with Robert Fripp and went out on his own. He came out with this album in 73'. A great progressive rock album 20 years before his time. Nazzareth - "Hair of the Dog" One of my favorite rock albums featuring Love Hurts and Hair of the Dog. Just plain good old R&R. Ah, the 70s rock.

Or Rainbow - "Long Live Rock", for that matter.

Re: Greatest albums that slipped between the cracks...
The new bands don't know how to play their instruments now and the old bands are all sober so they seem to have lost the ability to create new good music.

Bandolier! My man. What a great album. Not a lot of people remember Budgie. How about Hawkwind?
