Re: Long paragraphs suck

Well, usually a good paragraph should consist of about 3-5, maybe up to 8 sentences. A paragraph should contain material all semi-relevant or under the same idea. Should a paragraph run over the 3-5 sentences, in my opinion, the writer needs to learn to express themself more clearly. However, I'm am most certainly guilty of this in some of my insomnia-ridden posts. =D

Re: Long paragraphs suck

To go along with this theme, I have found that if you put more then one action in an email you will only get the first one done. We do a lot of business with email at work so I have tried this out a number of times. Had some luck with numbering the tasks but that did not work consistently.

So it just goes to show most people pay as much attention to written texts as wives pay to their husbands when they speak!

I have experienced similar results, some people prefer not to "multi-task" so they politely turn it into a multiple choice and choose one.

Re: Long paragraphs suck

Writing full paragraphs of about 3-6 sentences is usually fine. But if you are planning to type a full paragraph you really should strive to use proper punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Proper use of capitals and punctuation are especially important as the individual sentences stand out more. This can prevent situations like the "Blah blah one Blah" example, and using more than two words is also helpful.

Further more if you do plan on writing a large amount of text it is always a good idea to read over it at least once and try and remove any redundant or unnecessary information or words. Proper word choice can make or break your post.

Personally I like fully fleshed out posts, as they add to the discussion much better than very shorter low content posts. Forums contain a wealth of knowledge and information, I have personal learned a ton of stuff from reading various forums, most of which has come from fairly long posts with proper writing structure.
