Disclaimer: This is a rant and people without common sense tick me off.

Ok so on my lunch break I ran an errand to Home Depot. Got the things I needed and proceed to the usually understaffed check out lines. I have a small number of small items to check out so I got in the Self Check out line , which I must say I have a very refined skill at using.

Well at this particular HD the layout is as follows (faceing the register from left to right) Self Check out with two units, One regualr check out in the middle, then another Self check out with two units. So Self - Reg- Self.

Now the lines were formed and distinct, at least to the rest of us there. I lined up on the left side indicating to most that I was waiting for one of the two on the left to open up. One did and I moved in. Just as I did this women, whose grade level was probally higher education level than the number of teeth in her head and who was lined up on the other side on the Regualr register (so the far right side).

Well she voices up at me. Something about we were waiting yada yada. I turned and expressed that I was in the line for this set (left side) and you are over there. She contnues to mouth off to those arond her. A man behind me from what I could understand defended my move and re-iterated the lines were seperate.

Well needless to say she completes her transactions at the same time I did (great grand super) and conitues to gab at me about cutting the line and this and that. I continue to express that there are two lines and would she please go away. Now I didn't say it nicely, nor hoorible confrontational or rude, just a simple " just go away" she responsed with a nice "F U" and more blah blah blah as I walked to my truck.

My Moral of the story - Stay in school long enough to know how to line up.

So I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

What's the saying, "teach a man to fish...."--if you teach them, they shall learn! Maybe you'll eventually teach them all and not have to fuss anymore

Checkout process using the cashier (assuming all items scanned are in the database): Take items to counter-cashier scans items-pay cashier- leave

Checkout using self-checkout: scan first item-put in bag- scan second item-put in bag-remove second item from bag becuase the computer thinks you're stealing it - wait for store employee to come over and void the last scan that didn't work - re-scan and re-bag second item - repeat, repeat, repeat.

Right,,,,unless they live in the Show Me State where you have to teach them the same thing you taught them yesterday and you can spend a lifetime trying to teach "an old dog new tricks",,,,sorry, I don't have that kind of time but maybe you can start a camp for these wayward creatures by showing them the basics like,,,breathing in and out on their own and then go into advanced things like how to zip up without getting the beans above the frank.
