Line at the Cash register

Disclaimer: This is a rant and people without common sense tick me off.

Ok so on my lunch break I ran an errand to Home Depot. Got the things I needed and proceed to the usually understaffed check out lines. I have a small number of small items to check out so I got in the Self Check out line , which I must say I have a very refined skill at using.

Well at this particular HD the layout is as follows (faceing the register from left to right) Self Check out with two units, One regualr check out in the middle, then another Self check out with two units. So Self - Reg- Self.

Now the lines were formed and distinct, at least to the rest of us there. I lined up on the left side indicating to most that I was waiting for one of the two on the left to open up. One did and I moved in. Just as I did this women, whose grade level was probally higher education level than the number of teeth in her head and who was lined up on the other side on the Regualr register (so the far right side).

Well she voices up at me. Something about we were waiting yada yada. I turned and expressed that I was in the line for this set (left side) and you are over there. She contnues to mouth off to those arond her. A man behind me from what I could understand defended my move and re-iterated the lines were seperate.

Well needless to say she completes her transactions at the same time I did (great grand super) and conitues to gab at me about cutting the line and this and that. I continue to express that there are two lines and would she please go away. Now I didn't say it nicely, nor hoorible confrontational or rude, just a simple " just go away" she responsed with a nice "F U" and more blah blah blah as I walked to my truck.

My Moral of the story - Stay in school long enough to know how to line up.

So I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

Sounds like you were far more reserved than I would have been. I was always told never to stoop to another persons level but that's the only way idiots would understand. Their all around and getting worse by the year.

WOW! If ignorance were bliss there would be a lot of happy people in the world.

You handled the situation admirably Wes.

Yes, higher education does pay off. What a dofus. You handled it nice and calmly compared to what I would've done.

Re: Line at the Cash register

I hear ya,,,,one thing I hate about going to any store with "self checkout" is the fact that a lot of people stand there with a blank expression on their face as they are trying to use something that they really have no brainpower to deal with. They will keep scanning with the SKU number not even near the scanner,,,they will look at the screen like it is going to talk them thru the process. After 5 items that took about 10 minutes to scan they suddenly realize they have to pay for this. They put their card in upside down, backwards, or any other way except the right way and then they get frustrated as they start looking around like someone is going to run over and check them out,,,,I'ts a F'N self checkout I say under my breath. So, they stand their shrugging their shoulders and then saying the check out is messed up,,,I walk over and tell them how to do it and then suddenly you'd think I parted the Red Sea for them. Why do people use these if they don't know how to use them? Don't even get me started at the grocery store with self checkout,,,I've seen these morons take 20 minutes to check out half a basket because they get lost and start the whole process over.

Re: Line at the Cash register

We don't have self-checkout on the west coast of Florida. I think that's a good thing.

We do in Southwest FL. At least at home depot and wal-mart.

They have someone stationed there in case someone can't figure something out.

I sometimes think the store should offer a course for some of the rocket scientists on self check out. It is so bad here that I sometimes go to the manned lanes because it is quicker

I agree with you, Jeff. Did you know they outnumber us 8 to 1? There was a study on the 80/20 principal where you have 20% of the people who really work their asses off and are pretty intelligent while the other 80% coast and draft behind the rest. Even though the original concept was called Pareto's Principle it still is analogous to the human effort.

I have read the same thing that 20% of the people do 80 % of the work. Not all that unbelievable when you look around you sometimes. Where are we really headed?
