Gosh darn pyramid schemes.

GAAAAAAAAAAH! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I thought I had a flippin' job lined-up finally, but come to find out that this guy wants me to work for a 'Network-Marketing' company. F-THAT. I really had high spirits for this job, too. I am fed up with jobs falling through. I've had 3 or 4 seemingly good jobs not work out in the past few months, and honestly, it makes me want to curl up and die.

I used to be the f-ing bread-winner. I used to be the one taking care of my friends in need. I used to not think twice about going out on the town once in a while. Now I find myself pinching pennies, obviously not TOO hard, since I have bought a few cigars here and there, but that's really about it.

Anyone else feeling this? I should be grateful for what I do have left. At least I've got school, a way of getting to school, my family and friends, and my beloved tobacco. There, I feel better. Thanks guys; you don't have to respond to this. I think I just needed someone to listen.

Re: Gosh darn pyramid schemes.

I am lucky as to be working but have quite a few friends looking or real close to be out of work. This seems like a cool place, I'm always up to sending a few smokes if needed. A mans got to have something to reflect on and nothing better than a thinking stogie.

PM if I can help.

I think things will pick up for us all hopefully sooner rather than later. Good Luck Guy's.

I've been lucky enough to keep and transfer the same job I've had since I was 16 (19 now). Its in the grocery industry though, so its rather recession-proof. Trying to find a job in my field (IT/Networking) is a bitch though.

Re: Gosh darn pyramid schemes.

I hope everyone gets what they want....and soon. I went back to college at 40 to a real expensive private school for engineering. It was a school that was near and dear. It was GMI, General Motors Institue of Engineering and Management.I had a cool co-op job with Harley-Davidson. I got to Calc 4 or whatever they called it and I slid back to management major.
The best thing I got out of college was my wife. Who would thought I would want to marry a women 19 years younger than me So I cant complain about the cost of school, I will tell you that SallieMae is not a happy camper because my pmts, if I actually made them (I would love to be able to afford them but my job is not in my field) is more than I make....and they do not want to discuss it.
Im not sure I will ever be the bread winner, my wife is a/an mechanical/electrical engineer. We are keeping our fingers crossed, she is in the defense industry and had missed the first round of layoffs, but now they are removing the misslile shield in Eastern Europe....she is getting her resume polished up.
I hope this finds everybody at least having a good day.

Re: Gosh darn pyramid schemes.

I went through what your going through not so long ago Isaac. IT BLOWS GOATS!!! Job hunting, dropping off resumes/applications, going through sometimes 3 interviews, not getting called back after you think you nailed it......aaagghhh!!!
Heres a great story...
Went to one place & ran into a guy I know who was in charge of hiring for his company... He asks me... "What are you doing now?" I tell him "Well right now, I'm looking." He looks suprised & tells me to give him my email & phone number. I leave feeling like I might get a call for a job opportunity after I left by his talk & body language. Well a couple of days later I get a call from him, & I'm holding my excitment in while I'm talking to him. He wants to meet me for lunch & talk about an "opportunity" with him. I tell him I would love to, & am gushing with joy & enthusiasm after the convo. We meet up a couple of days later @ a nice restaurant & start to talk about my situation, yada yada yada, you know the usual... Then he whips out a pamplet. His "opportunity" that he spoke so highly of... This "opportunity" that I got so excited about... AMWAY!!!! He wants me to sell Amway for him!!! Now I don't show it on the outside, but inside I'm like, WTF!!! Are you kidding me?!?!?! I want to punch this douch right in his jabbering mouth!!! And right now, in my mind, I see this big sign flashing EPIC FAIL!!!!

I kindly told thanks for his time & meal, & went to my car, drove home crushed...trying to decide which bridge I wanted to hurl myself off of.

No... I did not persue the "opportunity".... Rant over...

See... I've been there...

Re: Gosh darn pyramid schemes.

Congrats Jason! I liked your story, BTW; it made me feel not-so alone lol. I almost had a really awesome customer service job with a specific railroad company... I used to detail the C.O.O.'s cars on the regular, along with a few other high-end VIP's... then got hit by a car and my knee hasn't been the same... He gave me a lead to a job over at his company, and got through 2/3 interviews, but I don't think I interviewed very well lol. Got the rejection letter and flushed my heart down the toilet. Haven't much felt like detailing cars, and the other customers I had I think may have been feeling the economy too.

Recently I've been working per-diem in a friend's CPA firm, but it's very rarely he has any work for me. I just got bombed with a truckload of work for school, though, so that should keep me busy for a while! =D Idle Hands are the DevilSite's Workshop ahaha

Re: Gosh darn pyramid schemes.

I feel for all of you!

I have been lucky and have been able to fall into a new job as the bottom fell out of the old one..

Example I followed a prominent Sales manager to a new dealership and proceeded to be the golden boy with him there...except we had been given just enough rope to hang ourselves...I lucked out and wife had to have surgery so when it all went down I was out with medical leave..and survived...He was buying cars off online auctions and selling them on his own off the lot..using dealership tags and money..and I help sell some of these cars and made nice lil bonus...Keep your head up and I wish there was more we could do.

Good Luck!

Shawn
