The advertisements are determined by you through AdWords. Not by them, they can say what they don't want though, but every place I go to after going to a cigar website has cigar ads, then later if I go somewhere else the ads change. So... you must be secretly liking Twilight :P.
Ads are also customized by Google based on surf history... never knew ninjas were into sparkly drama vamps!
There was also a time when they were based on message content. That generated some entertainment for me:
Type email message. Enter a couple of carriage returns (that's "hit enter a couple of times" for you young whippersnappers) and change font to white. Type in egregious stuff say....."midget bondage pr0n" or "inflatable sheep." Rinse and repeat in the sent message a few times - the recipient starts getting ads on his/her google mail with said interests included.
And I would note that Derek lives just a short trip away from Forks. Probably generated the banner ad when he ordered his "Team Edward" pajamas.

All joking and banter aside, I'm genuinely confused. I've no idea how that could be based on my search activity. I've never looked at anything remotely related to vampires, I generally dispise celebrity gossip, and have never searched for information in Twilight, or anything I can think of related to it. And my wife hates Twilight, celebrity gossip magazines, and all things related to either more than I do, so it wouldn't be her activity either...
