I'll have to stop by. I live in the middle of downtown, and I don't venture outside of the city all that often, but this sounds like a good enough reason.

Re: Charleston - Kingston Cigar Shop

I stopped by earlier today, since I got off work early. Ive always wanted to check out the store. The lady who was working was extremely nice and knowledgable. I was so stoked to find out that they carried tatuaje, since the cigar store in MTP doesnt carry em. Its also nice to know a place where you can still smoke a cigar indoors. I cant wait to go back!

I don't think you're talking about any of those shops, as none of them are downtown. I believe you're referring to The Tinderbox/Club Havana. The Tinderbox's website boasts "legal Cubans". http://www.tinderboxcharleston.com/cigars.html

What do you know about the "legal Cubans"/pre-embargo Cuban tobacco? Does that mean that they purchased the tobacco before the revolution in 1959, and it has just been sitting around somewhere?

yea the tinderbox has legal cubans. that means they were purchased before the embargo. the tinderbox is next to the market.

Re: Charleston - Kingston Cigar Shop

Right. I haven't been in there in a really long time, and when I did go it was typically to just have drinks upstairs at Club Havana. Are the pre-embargo cigars noticeably more expensive than NCs? I guess I should walk over there sometime when I have some free time and check them out. I usually find myself in the Smoking Lamp, but I'm in the general vicinity of the Tinderbox on most weekends...

Re: Charleston - Kingston Cigar Shop

i would imagine that the pre embargos are on the expensive side. think about it that means they are from the 50s, and got some major aging on em. Ive had some cigars from the little island off miami, and they were pretty damn good. but in all honesty there are some really great NCs. I went in tenderbox at the begining of christmas break. its a good store lots of accessories. I only go downtown if I absoultly have to. the little shop in MTP has most of the stuff i like, except no tatuaje.

Unfortuantely the Kiawah shop has closed...due to high rent I think.
