This statement boils my blood if it's true.

Quote:
The 21-year-old New York man said Tuesday he had no choice but to sell the ball — several people told him he would be taxed on the souvenir just for holding on to it.
The guy who caught the ball will make out alright, but it's almost like he doesn't have the option to keep the ball even if he really wanted it.

Bonds says he doesn't want to ball...it's for the "fans", if there is such a thing!

I'll start the bidding!

Re: Bonds' 756th ball going to auction

Why isn't the IRS collecting tax on every $8 ball hit into the stands?

This really boils me up. Sure, he got a ball worth $500,000 +, but he didn't actually sell it yet. I agree that when he sells it and sees a profit, then he should pay tax. But until then, the IRS should only assume it is the same as every other souvenir ball that enters the stands worth $8. If you don't sit in the stands and tax every ball, then you shouldn't tax this one.

I once caught a hot dog that was shot up into the stands during a Phillies game. Maybe I should have claimed that. Ahh, they'll never know. I ate the evidence.

Oh, this got your attention because it says "dog" and "shot" in the same sentence. This wasn't an Atlanta reference.

I know it sounds disgusting, but it is a wrapped hot dog and they used to (don't think they do anymore) shoot them into the stands with an airgun. Also a treat to not have to pay close to $4 for one.

Re: Bonds' 756th ball going to auction

I'm not sure he can be taxed on this. Does that mean every person that has anything that has amassed value - a painting, a baseball card, whatever - can be taxed on the "possible" value of the item? It's not worth a penny until someone pays more for it. I think someone is giving this guy some bad info.
