The depth of ignorance in some folks is staggering. Why is Marbury even speaking out publicly on this? His reputation has been a little shady... was doing better with the release of his reasonably priced sneakers - so now he needs to get in this? I just don't get it...

worked on my end. I used to deer hunt, but I don't ever recall making them suffer on purpose for my ammusement. I think this will be great for the NBA as this helps their ratings drop to the depths of the underworld.

I do see his point of view, in that “what's the difference in how we kill an animal if we are killing animals?” Trapping and hunting is no less humane but is accepted.

I am not condoning or advocating dog fighting, especially the merciless killing of underperforming dogs, but we should take step back and see dog fighting for what it is the grand sense. When two dogs start fighting on their own, it’s exciting until they start drawing blood or it’s your pet. I had fond memories of my friend’s two Cocker Spaniels; Roco & Ivy fighting in my friend’s living room. He was trying to break it while on the phone, smoking a cigarette and had a drink in his hand. Ivy would usually win.

In the US, we get have a similar outcry towards horses, to the point where horse meat is illegal. Horse meat is darn tasty, but many see a horse as something special like a dog. In India, the cow is sacred, yet beef is eaten without second thought.

Cock fights aren't seen as very inhumane in most of the world... One of our most beloved smokes Punch has the very scene printed on their box and we all just love Punch cigars.

I think it all boils down to is making animals suffer. Hunters do not make animals suffer if at all possible, and certainly do not do it on purpose.

I have to say, though, that the dog treatment is just one part of the issue here. He was running and coordinating a gambling ring and he was going to be facing racketeering charges.

Not something that neither the NFL nor sponsors want to touch -- let alone the dog fighting and animal cruelty.

You can have this philosophical conversation in alot of areas - liquor and drugs, prostitution is a victimless crime, gambling...the list goes on.

The bottom line is: dogfighting is illegal. Hunting and trapping are not.

Illegality has little to do with right or wrong, as things that were wrong have been legal and vice versa.

Taking pictures of little girls and posting their location is not illegal either, but we find this wrong.

I would say a 170 grn. bullet traveling at 1,600 ft/sec. hitting a deer, that kills almost instantly.
Or forcing dogs to fight, and then suffer for a few hours until some one decides to hold their head in a bucket of water until they're drowned.

Thats the difference.

What about trapping? Or when you miss a kill shot and the animal takes off wounded?

Marbury has lost his mind, I think. He's been making totally off the wall statements all summer and theres even a video of him floating around on an NYC sports talk show which is truly surreal. He is totally out of it. Anyway, Im not apologizing for what he says I actually posted cause I wanted to share a link to this article, which is IMO a very good one....
