They need to race in the little road track in the infield for that to happen. JPM was running near the front for a while though!!!

Re: Villeneuve Wins Talladega!

I am a bit new to this. Explain to me:

Why the fans' are so agressively angry against other drivers' - like the guy who beat somebody's record. Lots of stuff being chucked on the track an stuff?

Seems to me there was alot of resentment about Villeneuve joining in NACAR and Talledega. Why is that? He is a legendary driver already. His father was a true hero of mine.

Is everyrace a "restrictor plate" thing? I found it not as exciting as I would've hoped. If it is a safety thing I might disagree with that because racing them all in a very tight pack for so many laps seems to be setting up a bigger accident.

It will be interesting to see how Jaques and Dario fare in NASCAR. SInce I will be following Villeneuve I guess I should learn!

Don't have time right now to answer the rest; but yesterday's race was boring as shit. That was very unusual.

I can deal with some of your points. People generally are hooked on one driver-kind of like following one sports team. Much of the anger over records being broken is when Jeff Gordon breaks one of Dale Earnhart's records. To his fans he is more popular after his unfortunate and untimely death than he was when racing.

The resentment toward Villeneuve racing NASCAR is only due to the fact that he is starting at one of the most dangerous tracks on the circuit with no experience outside of pointy nosed cars and they are afraid that he will wreck and take some drivers out of the chase.

The only tracks where they run restrictor plates are Talledega and Daytona. They were exceeding 200 miles per hour on these tracks and with the aerodynamics of these cars, they were going airborne in crashes and endangering spectators in addition to the drivers themselves. The plates are to keep the speeds down to where the cars will usually stay on the track.

I think that more and more open wheel drivers will come to NASCAR as Indy car racing dies in this country. Hope these notes help.

Boring as shit, I don't know what race you were watching. engines burning up left and right. Cars three wide going into turnes. Everybody expecting the big wreck around the end. A very exciting finish. The race I saw was exciting.

It wasn't nothing like the last few years. Don't care too much about engines going up in smoke except for when I blasted a few words out when Jr's went out. I didn't get into it this time as I did back at the spring race--it was different with the COT.

I for one am glad to see him in NASCAR. It will keep him occupied and he will not have time to make any more music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJmHsWVxP24

He started off the back of the field. That was a nice gesture. But he is a he is a Cart Series Champion, Indy 500 winner and F1 World Drivers Champion. I think he can race with them.

That is why the Chase Drivers threw a hissy fit when Jacques qualified so well. Mid level teams are going to start taking chances on some of these open wheel and foreign drivers, and one of them is probably going to be in the chase in the next couple of years. The writing could be on the wall. It was not all that long ago that CART/Indy was dominated by Americans. NASCAR wanted to grow asnd become international, but if to continue to grow, they may alienate their fan base.

Re: Villeneuve Wins Talladega!

I agree that he will do well in NASCAR but a track like Talladega is not the kind of track to start out at. He has driven faster in other classes of cars but they had handling and downforce superior to what the COT has. The engineers still did not know how the COT would handle on a plate track in a scrum such as that created by the virtual inability to separate from the pack. Jeff Gordon's point is that it was a real bad track to start out on and it was a real bad time of the year to be starting out. I do agree that it was good of him to start at the back of the pack.

Because they're morons.

Mainly because Talledega is a track not built for a first-timer. It's the fastest track on the circuit, and the track at which a newbie mistake can take out dozens of cars. It was a bad choice on his part to start there. I'm glad there were no major problems.

In NASCAR, we don't believe in nepotism.

Nope, it's not - just two tracks, Daytona and Talledega. And personally, those are two of the most boring tracks to see a race at.
