Re: WTF - Why

I think it takes a ton away from the meaning of the ring. I don't even really like it when players get traded halfway thru the season from a winning team and end up getting a ring. Sure they helped the team get there in the long run but the point of a ring is to show that you actually won a championship. Should Nomar have gotten a ring when the sox won? No, not unless the ring symbolizes that they were a better team for trading him. I like seeing announcers for teams wear their rings. Their calls really played a crucial role.

Workers like team Secretaries get rings. So do Friends of the owners and team sponsors. They are not just for the players. Even when the Sox won a few years ago they had an lottery for rings for a couple of fans. So I guess it is no big deal, but they would mean more to the players and coaches.

Re: WTF - Why

When the SU BBall team won the championship in 2003 everyone related to the team got a ring. Even the towel boy got one.

In my opinion its not the ring thats important its the fact that you played and won a championship. That should be an internal victory.

I was against the raffle for the fans at first, until I saw how much money it raised for charity. Then I quickly changed my mind. That was great what they did.

Re: WTF - Why

There are normally different levels of championship rings given out in an organization. Only the players, coaches, top execs get the full blown ones you see on tv. Trainers, equipment mangers, secretaries, etc. get the lower level ones. I'm guessing Kid Rock got one of these, but I don't know.
