Bank sues Michael Vick over $1.3 million wine shop loan
October 16, 2007 ATLANTA (AP) -- Wachovia Bank is seeking about $940,000 from Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and a business partner. The bank claims that since Vick's indictment on federal dogfighting charges, they defaulted on a 2006 loan to set up a wine shop and restaurant. In a federal lawsuit, the bank says Vick, partner Gerald Frank Jenkins and their Atlantic Wine & Package LLC have failed to make monthly payments of principal and interest, and that Vick's obligations "are impaired due to recent events involving Defendant Vick." Wachovia claimed in the suit filed Oct. 2 in U.S. District Court in Atlanta that it loaned them $1.3 million in May 2006. Vick and Jenkins opened Atlantic Wine & Spirits and the adjoining Tasting Room restaurant in East Point in March. The next month, authorities conducting a drug investigation of Vick's cousin raided property the quarterback owned in Surry County, Va. Officers seized dozens of dogs, most of them pit bulls, and equipment associated with dogfighting. Vick initially denied any knowledge of the enterprise, but he pleaded guilty in August to bankrolling the dogfighting ring and will be sentenced Dec. 10 in the federal dogfighting case. He is expected to get at least a year in prison. He's also facing felony dogfighting charges in Virginia, which carry possible sentences of up to five years each. The Wachovia suit also claims that Atlantic Wine has multiple checking accounts, and that two of those accounts were overdrawn by a total of $34,680. Vick already has been sued by an Indiana bank that claims he failed to repay at least $2 million in loans for a car rental business, and by a Canadian bank that claims he owes more than |

Re: and the hole just keeps getting deeper
I don't understand how someone who had it all could destroy his life this way. Maybe it is genetic since his brother is also a pos who wrecked his life but he did it in college.

Re: and the hole just keeps getting deeper
Well when it rains it pours! Notice that this is something of Vick's own making. He defaulted on the loan by not paying either principal or interest (In financial terms that means you are broke as
). I hope Vick has got a numbered parachute account someplace in the Caymans because his ass ain't worth a damn here!![]() ATL

I can see it now. In about six years when he gets out of jail he will be working in janitorial services for Arthur Blank and tearing up the semi-pro football world.

That might be a problem due to the Ricky Williams rule. The CFL will not take players under suspension in the NFL.

And let's not forget Vick isn't the only criminal in the NFL. Here's an excerpt from this article: http://www.thecommentary.ca/archives/20030925K.html "In their book, Pros and Cons, Jeff Benedict and Don Yaeger led the first comprehensive investigation into the criminal backgrounds of NFL players. The probe examined the criminal histories of 509 active players who were randomly selected from the 1996-97 rosters. Of them, 109 players (a staggering 21%) had been arrested or indicted, a combined 264 times more then the general public, for crimes more serious than minor misdemeanours. The charges included two for homicide, four for kidnapping, seven for rape, forty-two for assault or aggravated assault, and forty-five for domestic violence." I can think of one of the homicide's, not sure who the other is. I'll get flamed here, but in my opinion what Vick did was no worse than any of those other crimes. He committed crimes against animals, terrible, sure, but so is homicide, rape, kidnapping, assault, and domestic violence. I think far too many people are desensitized to those more serious, yet more common crimes, but have a soft spot in their hearts for crimes against cute furry animals. That's why Vick is getting so much media attention, but I have no idea who the rapists are in the league. I'm done now, flame on. |
