And, of course, the referee was standing right there and didn't call it.

The refs are missing all kinds of stuff in FB this year. I think they should revamp instant replay in order to make the right call in ALL areas. Worth the xtra time to get it right.

Re: Auburn Chop Block

That was probably the worst officiating I have ever seen in a ball game, going BOTH ways!
I still want someone to explain to me how they can throw a flag, review the play, confirm a TD then all the sudden act like they never threw the flag. I am still wondering about that one
I must say though, that is a loss that nobody can be mad about ( no matter who lost) because both teams came out and played their hearts out. It was one hell of a ball game and I enjoyed every minute of it. And I must say, I was a little skiddish going down there with all the talk about LSU fans being the rudest in the SEC. BUT, with a few exceptions, I found them to be quite cordial and hospitable welcoming us when we got there and telling us they were glad to have us when we left. Heck one guy a few rows over during our tailgate insisted that we come over and sample his Gumbo. Truly some class act people, and I look forward to making the trip again in two years.

Not all fans are a$$hats but every school has a few. As for the penalty that was waved off, I don't see that as any different than any other time when a flag is thrown, the refs have a conference and then wave off the flag because one of the other officials saw something different. That being said, I missed that series of plays so I won't comment further on it.

You are right that the refs missed a few calls going both direction. There could have easily been more pass interference calls on both teams for example.

That was atrocious! Flag should have been thrown.

I saw that he walked off, but he was sidelined for most if not the rest of the game. Is he okay?

Reports are that it's just a sprain knee and that he should be ready for Alabama in two weeks. Thankfully LSU has a bye this week.

Ya know I found the quickest way to find a common ground with an LSU fan was to talk about our dislike for Bama and Mr Sabin. Those folks in Tuscaloosa think they have Jesus coaching (keep in mind they think God died back in the 80'a). I had one guy tell me that they were all looking forward to coming to Al to pay him a lil visit!!! All I can say is in two week GOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo Tigers

Hey, since we're talking smack here, I've always found that the quickest way to give an Auburn man a circumcision is to slap his sister in the back of the head.

But to the point: it was a nasty, blatant, illegal block, and it was intentional. Watch the replays available anywhere and it is obvious. Heard from a former lineman for Texas AM who said unequivocally that it was intentional. Pat Dye said just an hour or so on Birmingham radio that it was bad and that it looked intentional even if he wasn't sure the lineman was trying to actually hurt him (go figure). Of course, Old Pat could have been in the sauce given that he made this statement after 8:30 AM.

Re: Auburn Chop Block

IF the Auburn lineman had been knocked down or fell off another block it could be construed as unintentional.
But the replay makes it look like he intentionally went for the back of the knee. Back in the olden days when I played football, that was called a chop block.

Re: Auburn Chop Block

I don't know about ya'll but it semms like the past three years LSU has had the worst luck when it comes to the officials. Also, I don't know where people get the idea about LSU having the rudest fans in the SEC. If anybody knows about LSU fans, it's that we pride ourselves on being the friendliest most hospitiable fans in the country that has a passion to the game unrivaled by any other fan base.

Re: Auburn Chop Block

That was very dirty and deserved a bit of a punishment as it was probably intentional, but LSU is the dirtiest team I've seen thus far and they've gotten away with worse than that, so you can't complain too much.
SEC officials are awful. I don't know why, they just are.
Best of luck to LSU here on out though. They seem to be the only hope of an SEC team getting to the NC game.

Re: Auburn Chop Block

I happened to see the replay on ESPN and I have to agree that it was a blatant chop block. I didn't watch the game, I just saw this as a blip on Sportscenter. Things get missed by officials, but I believe that they get most of the calls. I can't see how they missed this one though. Dorsey is very, very lucky nothing was torn or broken. Very poor judgement on the part of the Auburn player.
