buying talent helps but when you have a team of I's and me's like the Yankmees you can't always afford to buy the prize as well

Actually, they are copying the Yankees of the 90s...They were bringing up young talent, keeping them as long as they could and then buy and overpay players to fill in the missing spots.

If anything, the Yankees started trading away the farm over the past several years, and you are right, some of the personalites, like A-Rod & Sheffiled, are just not goog teamate. Plus they would probably give some older players a 4 or 5 year contract, who probably only should have gotten 2 or 3, so age became an issue too.

They will be back though. They can just afford to spend so much more than the other teams. Next year does not have to be a rebuilding year.

Much easier to do this when there was no baseball draft and the reserve provision bound a player to a team until the team got rid of him. In the era of free agency there is not a great disparity in the number of World Series appearances although the Yankees have an edge in WS wins and playoff appeances. You probably will not accept this since I have never seen a Yankees fan interested in logic.
