Re: The BCS is out...

Virgina Tech, LSU and Boston College are all 10-2. VT lost to both LSU and BC yet are somehow ranked ahead of both of them?

Georgia is ranked #4 but not playing in the SEC title game. So it is possible that they do not win their conference but play for the National Title?

Florida has 3 losses but is still in the top 10.

Say what you like about Hawaii's schedule, but 11-0 should be enough to get in the top 10.

System still needs work.

Not a big fan of the BCS, BUT...since Mizzou is # 1, the frickin system is obviously dead on.

Disclaimer, neither myself, family or friends are affiliated with the University of Missouri.

True, but I hope they do. I don't want Ohio State back at the top, I want 2 teams that nobody really cares all that much about. Sorry to any fans of those schools, but let's be honest, neither team has the following OSU does.

I want BCS controversy. I want the system to look as flawed and failed as possible. I want someone to say "why the hell should the national champion be decided by the date of a team's loss, rather than the game itself?" Right now you may as well base the championship game on the cycles of the planets and moon. Take VT for example. We lost early in the season, and consequently we're ranked above both teams that beat us.

This season the BCS has nothing at all to do with football, it has to do with the calendar. Missouri and WVU were fortunate enough to lose earlier in the season than OSU, and consequently could play for the championship.

Then consider the teams that have to play for a division championship at the end of the schedule. That guarantees a tougher schedule and a hard finish to the season. Missouri has to play Oklahoma, WVU has to play Pitt. Which one do you think has a better chance of winning their final game? With a system that relies on the calendar as much as the current BCS, division championship games are more of a penalty than anything else.

Should be a blast... both offenses are worth the price of admission!

Bottom line BCS stands for Big Crock of Sh**. It's nothing more than a popularity contest. Congrats to Mizzou for being number one but could we PLEASE HAVE A DAMN PLAYOFF SYSTEM?

Well then I will say it...Hawaii's schedule is no where near strong enough to get in the top 10. There are just some teams that will never make it there until they play stronger teams and prove themselves. I mean they did well in the WAC but put a team like Texas or Ohio state in there and see what happens.

Its the same thing when we talk about the mountain west. That conference just isn't a strong one. I wish it was (I am a CSU graduate in 2 weeks and thus a fan of that school) since CSU would have made some better bowls in the early years of 2000's when the school did well. But they didn't and such is the life in the WAC and mountain west. Its fun to play but its just not the same as being in the Big 12, SEC, or PAC-10 type of conferences. Makes me glad to be a huge Texas fan too. At least I have a winning team with my losing CSU rams lol.

The only reason the BIG12 and SEC are in this mess is because they went after the dollars. A CCG at the end of the season is big money for the respective conference. Now, that is not a bad thing at all, but it does put a team at a possible unfair advantage. The flip side is true also. Suppose Oklahoma was undefeated and played a one loss Mizzou team. Mizzou wins the game. That win could propel Mizzou over an idle Ohio State.

People talk about wanting playoffs and the such. That's fine, but it is about big money and until you can figure out a way to make everyone happy, it just isn't going to happen. Case in point: the Rose Bowl has it's own tv deal with ABC. All the other BCS Bowl games are televised by FOX. Not the Rose Bowl. Why? Because (in their eyes) they have the best gig going. Hard to argue with them. Without Googling the schedule, can you tell me what day and time the Fiesta Bowl is this year (200? How about the Orange Bowl? Sugar? But I bet you all know what day and time the Rose Bowl is. Yup, 5:00 ET on New Years Day. They have been in that time slot for the last 20 years or so. Why? Because that's when they want the game shown. No questions asked.

I remember a time when the all the bowl games were on New Years Day. Then they moved the NC Game to a few days after New Years Day. Fine. Then the next thing you know, the Orange Bowl moved to January 2nd. Then the Sugar Bowl. Why? Money. Those Bowls wanted the entire day to themselves so they could guarantee their sponsors more people watching their telecast. It is all about money and who controls the money.

You think an 8 team playoff would generate more money? So do and so do the people controlling the Bowl Games. But why upset the apple cart when you can make whatever money demands you want, knowing full well that you will have sponsors and TV execs tripping over their feet to give you the money that you want.

The BCS Bowl system isn't about to change anytime soon. The current BCS contract with FOX runs until 2010 and the Rose Bowl deal with ABC until 2014. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn...c.php?t=245876

We are stuck with what we have for a while.
