to recap: samari is disrespectful to a game official. the game official responds by calling him "boy" (the official is in his 50s - so, to him, he is a "boy"). and samari wants something done about it???

uh... i pray, if there is a football god, that HE (samari) is the one penalized for berating an official of the game and that the official is not found in the wrong on any part (other than not throwing a flag on Samari for the Unsportsmanlike Conduct).

sorry for the rant, but i just saw this story and couldn't help myself.

It was a ticky tack interference call...shouldn't have been called, IMO. Then again, I cant stand the Pats or that robot of a coach, so I may a little biased.

Well, Calling a man "Boy" in some places is considered a racial slur. Reactions to blatant racism can seem extreme to folks that have never been the object of that kind of hate. I never lived it, but it's hard for me to be critical of the person's reaction.

If the ref said it then it is a total lack of respect on the refs part. I think I would overreact too.

it's a ref, a game official, not some punk kid reffin' the game. there should be some level of respect (which is a lot) given to the officials in the game - at least there use to be.
the disprespect shown to the refs and the game by the ravens was way over the top - and a reflection of the "character" types they have on their team.

Given your position, should the ref be fined or reprimanded at all??? If not, you're not being very consistent. After all, he did respond. Listening to other player interviews, it was going on all night. Apparently, this referee has a reputation as an AHOLE....maybe he has an attitude because he couldn't cut it in the league...just sayin.

Between the refs in the NFL and NBA, the umps in MLB they all think the fans pay to see them, they are consistently inconsistant.....I guess they have to do something to get notified.

I'll agree with the 'character' types they have on the Ravens. As a generalization, obviously there are several stand-up players. In fact, probably more so than those with bad attitudes, but they keep their mouth shut so it's easy to overlook. But there are definitely some bad apples.

Now as for the level of respect... I think it goes both ways. The refs handed that game to the Patriots. Yes, Baltimore made mistakes. But the Patriots are hard enough to beat on their own, the last thing Baltimore needed was terrible calls in key moments of the game that dropped scoring opportunities right into Brady's lap. I'd have been pissed if I were on that field too, and I probably would have said things that wouldn't have sounded so good the next day.

It's not just this game either, NCAA was riddled with horrible officiating. Some of which likely cost certain teams hundreds of thousands of dollars in missed bowl opportunities. Last night's game may not have made a difference on either team's season, but there's no excuse for lopsided officiating.

My guess is it costs Samari Rolle atleast probably $5000 and his boy Bart Scott probably played the game for free, atleast $20,000 in fines for him just in on field incidents.

Players should be held to high standards but those officiating should be held to even higher standards.

Society sees these people (refs, umps, judges, police officers..etc) in high authority positions. Therefore they should be above name calling.
