EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Greg Schiano rejected overtures from Michigan and will remain the football coach at Rutgers.

Schiano met with the team Friday and told the Scarlet Knights of his decision, Rutgers spokesman Jason Baum said.

It marked the second time in less than a week that Michigan was rebuffed in its efforts to find a successor to Lloyd Carr. Les Miles decided to remain at LSU last Saturday

Re: Coach at Michigan? No thanks...

i don't blame those guys for staying at schools that are already doing well. they both walked into jobs where those teams were set up to win, both at Rutgers and LSU. why leave a spot that's now starting a winning tradition at Rutgers, or one that's been a national champ recently (maybe even this year) at LSU??

for some reason, i've always liked Michigan, eventhough i hate college sports - but if i were a fan of college sports, i don't know why, but i'd root for Michigan (and i don't live there, never been there).

you gotta give them credit for trying to bring in good coaches instead of old retreads.

Im actully kinda glad miles turned down the job. Ya hes a michigan man, but i really dont think hes that good of a coach. hes got an awesome staff but there are so many better people out there than him.

Hope they find someone soon though. Could be hard recruiting the talent to replace those graduating with out a coach in place.

GO BLUE!!!

He's not that good? Three 11 win seasons in a row! Why LSU should fire someone so incompetent.

Here's a good one! It was on the radio down here (WWL-870AM). They reported that Michigan wanted to talk to Sean Payton with the Saints. He was asked about it at his press conference and he said he was happy to be the Saints coach and wasn't leaving.

Bad Saints Team or Bad Michigan team? Hmmmmmm? I'll take the Saints.

Re: Coach at Michigan? No thanks...

Here's the story:

Payton says he's not going to Michigan and Bush may play Monday

WWL.com Reporting
New Orleans Saints officials today are denying a couple of rumors.

Saints coach Sean Payton says an ESPN report that Reggie Bush is in doubt for the season with a knee injury is not true. He acknowledges that Bush did hurt his knee, but says the running back has a tear in his posterior cruciate ligament. He says Bush isn't necessarily out for the rest of the year, and may even play Monday night in Atlanta. Payton says, "I'm still hopeful for this... game."

Payton also commented Friday on a report in a Michigan newspaper that links him to the open coaching job at the University of Michigan.

Payton says he is staying in New Orleans. "Trust me this is where I want to be," he said.

As a Rutgers grad and fan, I am ecstatic to hear Schiano is staying (I'm also surprised since Michigan is a higher profile job).

I promise you though, Schiano did not walk into a job where Rutgers was set up to win. I will say unequivocally that Rutgers sucked before he got there. If I misinterpreted what you were saying, my apologies...

It comes down to money and Michigan is notoriously tightfisted when it comes to paying their coaches. Tradition and facilities can only get you so far -- it's time to open up the checkbook.

As a WVU alumni, I will agree that Rutgers sucked. Not Temple-grade sucking, but pretty sucky.
