Interesting. I wonder if WVU will hire Les Miles now!

First we steal their basketball coach and now their football coach. Better keep an eye on the coach of their coed rifle team, I hear we're going after him next.

Re: Michigan hires West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez as next coach

Hey - by all means enjoy your new coach... I mean, this is a WV native who has renegotiated his contract twice in less than 2 years. He is strictly money motivated and has a blatant disregard for his players, the state and the university. At his last negotiation, he was given a very substantial increase in salary - unless a $500K+ raise is not big to you. The alumni and athletic department agreed to his requests for improvements and additions to the facilities. In short, he was given everything he wanted. In WV, the WVU football coach is not a man - he is a king among men. He walks on rose petals and is revered by everyone. WVU fans are among the most loyal in the country - we live and die by the Mountaineers. But once crossed.... this is not likely to be forgotten or forgiven any time soon.

Last year he came out and stated he was not in talks with anyone - this was later shown to be a lie and if not for the aforementioned perks and cash (including the virtually unlimited use of Mylan Puskar's private jet) - he would have left then - and now, after being given everything he has asked for from the school and alumni - and making statements to the effect that he would like to retire from WVU - to leave us high and dry a few short weeks before a bowl game against Oklahoma...

Good riddance Ritchie Rich - I hope that your pursuit of money and the complete forfeiture of your word as a man serve you well in Ann Arbor. I wonder if he will still be in Michigan in 2013 (when his current WVU contract was set to expire...)

I do not blame someone for trying to make a better life for themselves and their family - to seek success and acheivement is noble. However, making false statements and not being true to those who have shown loyalty and support to you, and seeking to further your ego and ambition at the sake of others - those are not the actions of a man of character.

My new #2 favorite college team - GOOOOO BUCKEYES!!!!!

Oh, and just to fuel the conspiracy theories out there - if WVU beats Pitt and is working on a BCS championship game - is Rod availble to go recruiting and interviewing with Michigan? Anyone who saw that game knows the play calling was certainly suspect.

I certainly encourage the NCAA to take a strong look at his actions over the past 2 weeks as it is clear that he has been out of the state of WV and very likely recruiting players for Michigan - which is clearly against the rules.

I was pissed and felt betrayed last year when he pulled this junk to get more money - now I am beside myself and can only think that my alma mater is better off without someone who is strictly driven by money and ego, who has no loyalty and above all has no issue with making outright false and misleading statements over and over again.

I haven't posted here in quite some time but thought I would chime in, as I am a current WVU grad student. After last year, he was forgiven and put on an even higher pedastal. The loss to Pitt and now this.....give me a break. I was at the Pitt game and it made absolutely no sense. Slaton with 9 carries? I'm not accusing him of anything, but if we win that game and are in the BCS Championship Game, Les Miles is Michigan's new coach. I really can't blame him for chasing the money, but like paperairplane said, be a man about it. Why don't you just go ahead and bunch the Mountaineer in the face?

I won't hold it against ya'll if you forcibly go after Nick $aban and cause a HUGE meltdown in Bama Nation..not like they haven't already had that after this season (especially after ULM HAHA!)

Re: Michigan hires West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez as next coach

The vast majority of coaches are full of shit and just looking for the most lucrative contracts. How many millions do yens need? Like so often in society today, success is measured by the size of your bank account, whats in your driveway or the size of yens house. Would be nice to be set fer life money wise but thats not success. Success is raising yens kids right to grow up happy productive humans. And to be fargin happy. Maybe this is just a poor mans misconception. I'm broke and happy living in an old barn.

I'm pretty mad about the whole thing, but I can understand him chasing the money. Hopefully WVU can steal a good replacement from another school.

Re: Michigan hires West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez as next coach

Well as a Michigan alumnus I can't say that I'm thrilled that we got him. Of course I probably wouldn't have been thrilled with any new coach. Lloyd Carr was the last of a dying breed and I don't relish the thought of Michigan following down the path of coaching roulette that now plagues college football. I guess that's progress, right?

And as much as the spread offense gives our defense fits I'm not excited about that style of football coming to Ann Arbor either. Since we started running a pro style offense in the late 80s every single Wolverines starting QB has gone on to the NFL. Assuming Henne gets drafted (which he will) that will be 8 QBs in a row. That type of QB consistency is unprecedented. I guess now we'll just recruit QBs who can scramble and kiss that streak goodbye.

I feel bad for you WV folks and I feel bad for the impending death of "Michigan" football.
