I worked a the skate shop that used to do some of the skate rocking for the wings years ago He came in during one of his visits to town when he blew out a tuck balde holder on a practice pair of skates and came out to the shop,I meet him then he seemed like he would will never stop playing, you are right he will always be after that dream ring but he will also go were ever he can play for as long as he can play and does not have to worry about money or the press is what I meant. What the heck Gordie taught him the ever famous elbow poke check and look how long Gordie lasted in the NHL.Heck Chelious and Gordie can still out skate most of the young guys

Yep the press will pick some one and it probably be Babcock certianly not the owner calling shots from the owners suite, Kind of like the way WC never calls plays for the Lions ever and we know how that worked out this year

I agree, I see Chelios playing in the AHL after age 50 if he can't keep up in the NHL. And that elbow poke check is the chit, ruin a breakway without taking a penalty.

I think it might depend on who he picks. If he goes with Dom (assuming Dom is playing well in April) and the wings get bounced from the playoffs, then I don't think he'll take much heat. Dom was brought back to be the starter and is viewed by many to be a clutch performer.

However, if he goes with Ozzie and the wings don't win the cup, then I think he will take a lot of heat. For some strange reason, even though Osgood backstopped the '98 cup team, he has always been portrayed by the media and fans as being unable to win big games. The haters claim that Osgood didn't win games during the 98 cup run, he simply didn't lose them. I think a lot of this misconception is due to the fact that Osgood played during an era of two of the greatest clutch goalies in NHL history in Brodeur and Roy.

Detroit is a tough city for goalies. I'm only 27 but have seen so many goalies run out of town... Cheveldae, Bob Essensa, Osgood, Curtis Joseph, etc... Hell, even Mike Vernon after winning the Conn Smythe, was seen as expendable. How many times has a Conn Smythe winning goalie played for a new team the very next season?

Some good insight, thank you!

not a detroit fan but I agree here.

but I don't think the redwings will be in a situation where they will lose only because of the goallie. if they lose it will be a combo of factors, injuries, top line not scoring, etc. like ottowa last year, think everyone just admits they ran into a better team in the ducks that shut down their one scoring line.

Re: Question for Detroit Red Wings Fans...

Right now, Babcock is auditioning the goalies by having them alternate. He seems to me to be a coach who will start whoever is playing better and not worry about hurting feelings. If the playoffs start tomorrow, I think he goes with Ozzie because he's having an All-Star year. Hasek has bounced back from an awful start but has been less consistent than Ozzie. Both have one Cups. If it's me calling the shots, I go with Ozzie.
