Shreveport: The Grandaddy of Bad Bowl Games
I kinda take offense to this article. I mean, I've been to several Independance Bowls, and I thought they were always a great NCAA football environment. While the article does have merit, I think it takes cheap stabs at a bowl game city with not much going for it. Joe, you better chime in!

Good night, he spent that much time to list the reasons he doesn't like the city. I think he has some issues.

Re: Shreveport: The Grandaddy of Bad Bowl Games
True, there isn't a whole lot to do in Shreveport, but there is no need to take cheap shots at it.

Not to thread jack but my alma mater had a nice little article written about their bowl game. Turns out it has been the best bowl game I gave watched thus far. Oh well.

Re: Shreveport: The Grandaddy of Bad Bowl Games
I've gotta say, with no offense intended towards the fine state of Louisiana, that I am about ready for my team to move on, only because it is pretty much the last rung in the SEC bowl picture and an indication that you sucked just about as badly as you could while still retaining bowl eligibility. We sold our allotment, but I'm just about as tired of this one as I was of the Sun Bowl way back when I was in college. It seemed Alabama was in El Paso for Christmas every year (truthfully, there were two visits in a row). Christmas Eve partying in Juarez, Mexico, might just give you a little perspective as to the good town of Shreveport. Heck, it might just give you something else besides. Good googly woogly, what an sweaty armpit of a hovel of a town Juarez is.
We have a juvenile local sports-yakker in Birmingham who seemingly never misses a chance to take pot shots at Shreveport (he worked for a paper there at some point in his sorry little life; perhaps someone there figured out he was a putz and said as much). Apparently a working town is offensive to some folks. |

Re: Shreveport: The Grandaddy of Bad Bowl Games
The writer is probably one of the few guys to visit Shreveport and not get lucky with the ladies. Yes, he makes some valid points about the Shreveport nightlife not being up to par with say, New Orleans, or a holiday destination like Orlando but he fails to take into account why most tourist go to the Shreveport area to begin with - and it's not gambling. It's the bass fishing.
So, my guess is the idiot is a pompous jerk who thinks he should have been hired by Sports Illustrated right out of college and has found the only way to get notice is to write opinionated BS. If you noticed at the end of the article it mentioned that a lot of what he writes is under an alias - most be because the jerk can't get published more under his real name. |

He bitches about the weather, but it was 40 degrees and raining in San Francisco last night. He bitches about the nightlife, but I can't imagine Boise is a rockin' town to be in.
I think the dude's pissed cause he got sent to cover that game instead of the Hawaii Bowl or some place 'cool'. |

Re: Shreveport: The Grandaddy of Bad Bowl Games
I have always enjoyed watching the Independence Bowl, and there have been some good games. Remember a few years back when the Aggies and Mississippi State played in the snow. I don't remember the outcome, but I love watching football in crazy weather.

In addition to this crappy writer/article, they also give VERY bad dating advice based on stereotypes. I usually write a rant or two about it damn near weekly.

Re: Shreveport: The Grandaddy of Bad Bowl Games
What an Azzhat. I am no fan of the BCS in determining the National Champion, but I like most all bowl games for what they are. I have a special place in my heart for the Independence Bowl. Because it seems like AF played in it for about 5 years straight and we were just excited to get to any bowl game. Big AF Base down here and the Bowl Committee takes great care of the troops. Lots of free tickets passed out on base the other day (I gotta work tomorrow night though).
He goes all the way back to '83 to point out a strong storm - what's wrong with football in bad weather. After living in Boston and Chicago the previous 4 years I can tell you the weather down here in the Winter is damn nice. I do hate the heat in the summer though (which last through November!!!). Worst part he is just insulting the community and doesn't say much else. Yea, it's not a powerhouse bowl game. Maybe it doesn't generate huge amounts of cash for the schools, but I haven't seen any schools turn the Bowl down. Screw him, we are happy to host the game. Very nice community with nice folks, a great cost of living and GREAT weather in the wintertime (Golf all year!!). I guess he never listened to his Mom - "If you don't have anything nice to say --- Shut Yer Mouth". Shreveport ain't sweating this clown. I have to say though, this is the one place in the South that doesn't seem to have its own unique style of BBQ. We seem to borrow from Texas mainly (Beef and Brisket). So if those Crimson Tide fans want to load up their coolers with some BBQ (as if I have to mention it), I would appreciate it. BillyBarue
