Memphis Tigers Basketball

As someone who went to school at the University of Memphis and lives in Memphis, it's so exciting seeing the tigers get off to a good start this year, in the last week memphis has beaten #4 Georgetown, and #12 Arizona what exciting basketball.

Just sharing my excitiment for a great year, Tigers basketball is the talk around town, so nice to see our city excited over sports.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

congrats on probably taking over the #1 spot, but my Jayhawks are nipping at your tail! I won't be surprised if Memphis goes undefeated into the tourney. Now that we are in conference play NOONE in Conf USA can come close to matching their talent.

We play Gonzaga this week, and play the Vols next month. Although non-conference games, neither teams to look past. The Vols game will be a battle for State Braggin rights... and after the football season Tiger fans need something to brag about.

Duke fan here, but I will say that Memphis may be the team to beat in the tourny.

They are loaded with talent and deep. If they continue playing team ball and not playground ball (as they have in the past), they will be cutting the nets.

A Memphis/Kansas matchup would be interesting...

Yes they did! Last year, they would have lost that game. I am a little disappointed in Nelson getting caught up in Washington's shenanigans, though.

They are a much improved team this year, despite the lack of a post presence.

Very interested in that game. Memphis should win...

What about Kentucky over Tennessee?

I was happy to see it! SEC basketball is strong, it was a great game to watch.

Living in Memphis Tn, I see all the Vol orange I can stand.

To many folks in this town send there kids to the University of Memphis, and root for the Vols during football season, then put on Tigers blue during basketball season..... posers, not real fans lol.

I dont know if my school pride will be able to withstand a loss to the Vols in basketball, but the Vols are a legit team this year.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

Too bad they play in a weak conference.

Seriously, they are a really, really good team and probably going to be the #1 seed in the South. But, if they go undefeated in the regular season, will the preasure get to them in the post season? I know it's wierd to say but college bball fans know it's true....sometimes a loss is a good thing. The perfect example is Duke. They really learned how to get mentally tough after the loss to Pitt. The win last night over Maryland showed that. I am a Dukie but I don't think they will win it all, this year. A Final Four would be nice but the Tigers are very scary and a team to be dealt with. Here is my Final Four as of now. Memphis, Duke, UCLA, Tenn.

ABC! Anybody But Carolina!

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

Conference USA is young, and yes your right it dosent compare to the ACC, SEC, or Big Ten... But my hope is that Memphis will help raise the level of competition within the conference. Now if you want to talk about the Tigers non-conference schedule, thats a different story, one of the toughest.

Going into the Tourney undefeated would be tough, just the normal pressure of the tournament is enough, but if you were to add to that an undefeated record, well thats alot of pressure on these young men. Hey I'm not banking on an undefeated season. Next Sat. 2/23 Memphis plays the Vols that is a final four preview.

Dont count out your boys from Duke yet, they showed what they were made of last night when Maryland started to make that comback in the second half. It's funny I was watching Duke last night thinking man I dont know if the Tigers can hang with them... they are very solid, and a better coach in the tourney would be hard to find.

Regardless of how the Tigers end up after March, it's been great fun to watch.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

... hate to hi-jack this Memphis thread with Duke talk, but they are on fire this year!

The lack of post presence had me worried going into this season, but no more. These boys are having fun and even better, they are playing as a team. Their athleticism and effort has overcome the lack of an inside game. I'm so glad McRoberts is gone.

I'm not sure if they are NC caliber team, but they should make a nice run.

I still feel Memphis will be the team to beat in March/April. Hopefully it will be Duke.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

Your Tigers are coming to Birmingham soon. I spent a couple of quarters at UAB and have a friend who played for them way back when, so I kind of pull for them. Those folks at UAB are marking in on their calendars and it should be a loud crowd, but I don't think they're going to hang with Memphis for much more than a half.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

Memphis plays UAB tommorow, UAB and Houston are probably the toughest teams in the conference. UAB could do it, I dont think Memphis needs to look past anyone. With the Vols next Sat, I'm hoping there not looking to far ahead and UAB sneaks in there with an upset.

I'm sure the folks in Birmingham are getting ready, it's been that way pretty much everywhere Memphis has played this year.

My predicition, UAB close the first half, but the Tigers bench will wear them down in the second.... I hope..lol, thats why they play the game, You never know??? there are upsets every week.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball

Can Memphis make it 27-0?

27 wins would beat Calipari's record of 26 straight wins at Umass the year he took the Minutmen to the final four.

Big game tommorrow night, Memphis #1 and Tennessee #2.... Hope its a good game and those that watch enjoy.. Me, I'll be to nervous to sit down during the game.

Wish I had a couple tickets to the game? Ticket prices on the street are crazy, one could buy a nice collection of Vinatge cigars for what a pair of tickets are selling for.

I'll be glad when this game is OVER! too nervous....

Enjoy your college hoops! The kids are playing thier hearts out this time of year, erverbody's trying to make the tourney.
