whatever ... the Rose Bowl wasn't even the #2 bowl this year. Now UGA's rout of Hawaii -- THAT might be worthy of the #1 title.

It doesn't offset the Trojans' Cardinal sin. National champions do not lose to 41-point underdogs. At home. Against a backup quarterback making his first start.

Even the raucous events at the Rose Bowl can't change that.

Ouch! As a Georgia fan, I would've loved a USA/UGA Rose Bowl. A playoff would make SO much sense but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. Is money the problem? Why don't we just call the Conference championship games the bowl games and then do a playoff?

All the silliness aside, I'm sad that college football is almost over for months

The Rose Bowl really blew it on this one if you ask me. They had first pick of the game since they lost OSU. Going with tradition they picked Illinois, they could have taken UGA and made this game a very good matchup. Instead we got to see Uga and USC blow out their opponents and waste most of my new years day evening.

As for USC getting a split.. Maybe if they played Uga the winner there could have had a claim. No way not if OU and VT both win their bowl games.

Though I also would have thought it impossible for LSU to Jump from 7 to 2 by beating a lower ranked UT team in the SEC championship, while OU beating the #1 ranked team in the country going from 8 to 2 in the polls was out of the question.

Keep most of the Bowls and tradition in place. Add a couple/few more weeks on top of it and have a "True" national champion. It's got to happen eventually, IMO.

Until there is a playoff system in place, there is always going to be a few teams that cry loudly because they didn't make it to the BCS Championship game. Some have good reason to, some don't. Just because USC thumped Illinois gives them no reason to claim any share in the national championship. Had they gone through the season with none or even one loss, they would be playing on Jan 7 instead of having to yell from their soapbox that they are superior. Give it a rest, LSU and Ohio State are playing for the BCS Championship, no one else. PERIOD

USC has a clause that they have to be mentioned in National Championship converstations. Doesn't anyone read the fine print anymore

I think I saw that somewhere, maybe right next to ESPN's clause that says the must mention Doug Flutie's Hail Mary pass during EVERY televised BC game.

Whoever says USC deserves a split championship is forgetting that team is ranked #7, and of the top 6 teams, 5 of them could win their bowls.

There has never been and will never be an NCAA recognized national champion in college football.

So...

Who cares who the media or the BCS claim is the national champion? Its BS anyway.

"Yes. It's in NCAA Rule 47, Subsector C, Paragraph 2. Right after Paragraph 1 which states Notre Dame has to be on television every week and considered the most holiest of football programs"

I would've loved to see UGA play any other top ten team ESPECIALLY USC. I think UGA could take Traveler. That horse kinda reminds me of Mr. ED

The game last night just proved that Hawaii had no business being in a BCS bowl. Georgia did a great job of proving that the WAC can't hang with the SEC.
