I held the record for the standing broad jump at my old elementary school up until at least 1997 when I happened to see the records board while delivering some books to the school. At that point it had been over 20 years since that fateful, oh so windy day.

[Miscellaneous sporting awards in soccer, underwater hockey, golf...]

STP (Seattle To Portland) Bicycle Classic, In One Day (202 mi, 14:45), 1995.

[more misc awards in square dancing, fishing, motorcycling... is Scrabble a sport??]

That STP ride was _the_ shizzz. Two previous years I rode it in two days, couple more times started but DNF with mechanicals, butt... I had something to prove in '95. Four months of training rides every weekend until 160+ mi was quite doable in a day, a perfect spring, long summer day light hours and perfect ride day weather made it possible. Oh, and having Gramps meet me by the route in Chehalis to unload the extra ride gear really helped lighten the bike! (RIP Grandpa Rudy)

The finish line burritos and champagne never tasted so good!

Hmmm......my favorite achievments would have to be the HS record holder for the "ghost chair" PE test. It's when you sit against the wall with your upper legs parrallel to the floor. I went for nearly 30 minutes. I dunno what it's supposed to show, but I was good at it.
I was also the Horseshoe Lake Senior and Junior duck and goose calling "champion" for a few years.
Many purple ribbons for junior high and HS track.........it's the ribbon where you're not quite good enough to get third place, so they feel bad and give you a ribbon anyways.

I was a second year college player at the time and my primary team had just played the big ten tournament at the same venue. The "teams" that finished 2 & 4 in the tournament were an A and a B side of the same club. I think the top two teams went to the National 16 team finals.

Best single moment/athletic buzz: I loved playing college rugby and I had some really good games. (If I do say so myself ) I think the best was we won a divison/rival match 20-17ish and I scored all of our points. I can at no level take credit for the victory but it felt pretty damn good. It helped that I usually made points kicking conversions and penalties but that game I had three tries as well as at least one penalty kick and a couple of conversions. The funny thing was it was not great athletic ability on my part just recognition of an error the other team kept making. I just kept cutting back into the same hole and if they would have adjusted we would have lost.

Now I'm out of shape and can't stay off the IR long enough to put it all together again. Getting old blows. Thanks for the chance to rest on my laurels again.

What position did you play? I played scrum half/wing for my 2 or so years of playing

Re: 3rd Grade Kickball Champs! Whats your sports highlight?

Top ACTUAL sport accomplishment was back-to-back annual titles ('02 & '03) in 3rd division (read: 3-5 ranks below black belt, mostly green & brown belts) katas in a series of local karate tournaments. Second year I came close to overall champ for the division... Too bad I always got my ash kicked in sparring.

Most of my other proud moments aren't actual SPORTS persay, but they still got me varsity letters and accepted into college. I got lots of awards in/with bands, orchestras, Quiz Bowl, and Speech & Debate. That's right, I'm a nerd and proud of it.

I was a fly-half all through college. Then I mostly played fly or fullback after that but played all of the back positions as needed. Played some in Mens DI mostly in DII after college. I'm so much bigger now I probably would be a flanker if I could get in shape enough to play. Where and when did you play?

Just another little random story. Not a athletic highlight but a few years ago a played in a winter rugby tournament. Arctic fest I think, anyway it was in Wi and we played out on the ice on a frozen lake. There was about a foot of snow and it was kind of packed down on the "fields". It was a ridiculous drunken brawl but it was a hell of a lot fun.

I played from 03-05 at John Brown University, it's Division 2 for rugby, our main competition was Arkansas State and Northeastern State (OK).

Does winning my fantasy football league (TWICE!) count?

If not, then it was kicking the bejeezus out of a bunch of preppy, holier than thou, pvt school wannabes in my high school's golf league.

What?! What do you mean golf isn't a sport?!

Golf IS a sport. Speaking of golf, last year I had my first hole-in-one and came in 5th at the Special Olympics golf tournament (I am a coach, not a participant). I've also won our golf league, came in second, and have won low net score. I also won a small golf tournament and was part of the winning team in a Rotary Club district tournament. Well, maybe golf isn't a sport afterall

You bet golf is a sport - especially when you are coaching a Special Olympics team, very cool!

My senior year in HS I finished 3rd in the state of GA AAAA wrestling at the 195lb class. Then I won the championship belt while I was on a "float" on the USS Saipan.

Re: 3rd Grade Kickball Champs! Whats your sports highlight?

Ahh the memories. Being part of the senior team to bring back the conference title to our school and starting both ways offensive guard and defensive end. I was the lightest lineman on the team as well at 198 which I always thought was interesting. Also being part of the lineman challenge, at upmc sports complex however, we did not fare well. 7th out of 13 teams....BUT we did come in 1st at the tire flip haha (I live in a redneck community)

O well, good times!
