Wow, never thought that would happen so swiftly and in the middle of the season. Makes you wonder what was going down.

Met him in person a couple years ago. What a class act. He was pleasant to all the employees of the hotel I was working at.

Re: Bob Knight Resigns

My Dad played basketball for OSU during the same era and knew Bobby well. He went on to coach High School basketball locally for many years. He was the first coach at the high school level in this region to run a motion offense.

Bobby used to come to a game or two when my Dad was coaching and sometimes to the house when I was a kid. Bobby's personal demons aside, he was and, perhaps, still is one of the great coaches in the game.

Re: Bob Knight Resigns

Sad but understandable. Its reported that he just didnt enjoy coaching anymore. He has brought more to the table than most would have expected and I do not consider him a quitter by any means. I hope he enjoys the rest of his days living the good peaceful life. Im sure 99% of the boys he turned into men really appreciate everything he has put into the game of basketball and life for them.

BTW Nice story Tim, really cool story. Im so jealous that you were able to meet him on casual terms with your dad and all. I know those have got to be some great memories of your dad. I know I would have thought I had the coolest dad in the world as a child to see Bob Knight at my house.

I wonder if his health is OK. He's really looked beaten down more this last year or so. It is a wonder he hasn't blown a hose before now, really. I personally think he is one of the all time greats, flaws and all.

It was time for him to step down. Great coach, but I wondered why he recently signed that three-year extension.

Re: Bob Knight Resigns

having been a long time resident of Indiania - I developed a significant distaste for this arrogant, pompus and extremely bad behaved person. I think that he is perfect role model for individuals that should be banned from organized sports.

I am sure that his resignation is a good thing for whatever team had to bear the embarassment of having him on the court in their colors.

As a Red Raider Alum and big follower of Red Raider Sports there are tons of rumors going around in the Lubbock Area. One is that his health isnt very good and might be stepping down for health reasons. Again, just a rumor--and I hope he isn't in poor health--but thought I would report what I have heard several times.

Anyway, whether for health or other reasons, I wish Coach Knight the best.

Re: Bob Knight Resigns

A real nice article on him Here

Really for all his flaws, to hear these things about him is great. I feel like these are things a coach is really supposed to do. I have my own views on coaching philosophy, and how to act during the game, but it's hard to argue with the views posited in that article on his behavior outside the games

Re: Bob Knight Resigns

Winning coach, yes!

Someone I'd want coaching my Kids, not!

I never cared for his over the top bullish style. His antics on the court and even during many of his interviews were a little too crazy for me, the guy seemed unstable.
