LSU QB Perrilloux suspended for team rules violation
February 18, 2008

AP - Feb 18, 6:15 pm EST

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules, coach Les Miles said Monday in a news release.

Miles said Perrilloux's status for spring practice, which starts Feb. 29, is uncertain.

The release did not detail the rule or rules broken and it was unclear how the suspension would affect Perrilloux's future with the team. He has been widely considered the favorite to succeed Matt Flynn as first-string quarterback after leading LSU to two victories as a starter -- including the Southeastern Conference championship game -- when Flynn was injured in the 2007 season.

Perrilloux was considered the top high school quarterback prospect in the country when Miles persuaded him to join the Tigers. And he appeared to be fulfilling his promise in 2007, after redshirting in 2005 and playing sparingly as a third-stringer in 2006.

But this is not the first time he has faced discipline.

In May of 2007 he was suspended from the team indefinitely after he was cited for trying to illegally get on a riverboat casino in Baton Rouge by using his older brother's driver's license. He was reinstated in August.

In October, the week before the Alabama game, he was barred from practice for his role in a nightclub brawl.

Earlier in 2007, Perrilloux was named as a "person of interest" in a federal counterfeiting investigation, but that probe never led to charges.

Re: LSU Quarterback suspended - AGAIN!!!!!!

For some reason I have a bad feeling that this will be another Maurice Clarett or Cecil Collins...Sad.

Im hoping the rule infractions are something minor. I know sports talk radio had rumors today about missed team meeting/class/practice and something about his father passing away here recently. IDK what to think but ill wait for everything to come to light first. Im hoping the best for the kid as I hate to see people with such god-given talent throw it all away.

Re: LSU Quarterback suspended - AGAIN!!!!!!

Don't feel too bad, a DE Alabama signed last year and redshirted, Jeremy Elder, was arrested for Robbery 1st Degree (he was allegedly armed with and brandished a gun when robbing two students on campus). I guess this means an opportunity for some other kid that can resist the urge to screw his life up. If this turns out to be true, he better be really good at being a defensive end when he hits the big house, otherwise he might just end up as a wide receiver.

What is it that drives these kids who are thisclose to really making something great with their lives throw it all away? Incredible.

Re: LSU Quarterback suspended - AGAIN!!!!!!

His father passed away last week and he missed a team practice, 2 classes, and a team meeting. From what I've gathered and predicted, I think CLM is saying it's a suspension to alleviate some stress off the boy from his loss and let him know not to rush back to Spring practice. Some others have stated this might be true so that's what we're hoping for. None of these infractions will lead to him losing his spot on the team though.

Hell, if I lost my father i'd probably be gone for a month or two...prayers are with you RP.

If this is true, I frankly don't see the logic of how suspending someone after he loses his father is going to alleviate any amount of stress. If this is CLM's way of handling a death in the family of one of his players, I have to wonder what the hell he is thinking.

Sorry about the guy losing his Dad, though, and it could certainly explain some things. Suspend a guy for missing some things after his Dad dies? Give me a break, football isn't dairy farming, especially this time of the year. Give the guy some space, call it a temporary leave of absence, personal time, whatever, but suspend him?

Re: LSU Quarterback suspended - AGAIN!!!!!!

There has to be more to it then missing a couple of meetings and classes after a death in the family. I believe that we will have to keep an eye on the story and see what develops in the next few weeks.

Just about every college has given a scholarship to someone with more talent politicians have lies, and this is not the first one for LSU. Cecil "The Diesel" Collins is a very good example of this and from speaking to friends on the western side of the state, he was headed for trouble before he got out of high school (plus his high school stats were overrated because of the smaller schools that they played against his senior year. I think he only had 36 yards rushing in the state championship game that his team lost.)

Thanks for starting my Monday/Tuesday off right.

Re: LSU Quarterback suspended - AGAIN!!!!!!

Remarkably, every time I see a story like this in the news I am continually nonplussed. I marvel at how many people believe that great talent on the field translate to real life skills. Yes, there are many players that are true role models, but chances are they would be great role models even if they never set foot on a field of play. I hope his problem is not one very typical of these guys and a very simple rules or policy infraction.

Not to drive this thread too far off-topic, but for some reason I am thinking Colquitt is alcohol-related. Not an excuse, but a lot of college-age kids take alcohol too far, maybe he'll be able to get a handle on things before he completely muffs it up and before someone gets hurt. I suspect we might find out a bit more about the LSU QB, and I hope for his sake it is something that he can work his way back onto the team from. Nobody wants to see a young guy blow his potential, even rival fans.

The alleged armed robber from Bama is embarassing and in a different ballgame entirely. I'm trying to remember if we've ever had this kind of a thing happen at Bama before. He was a Shula recruit, BTW. Jeeze, screwing your life up for less than thirty bucks. Armed robbery, man, that's serious time in serious prison.

LSU Stogie, I wasn't trying to go off on you, personally, bro. Reading over it, it came off more harsh than I intended. I'd just hope that Coach Miles would be more sensitive than that, if sensitivity can be applied to a FB coach. I personally hope that if his recent transgression might be related to the death of his Dad, his coach gives him the opportunity to make it right, after appropriate discipline.

Re: LSU Quarterback suspended - AGAIN!!!!!!

I was listening to the radio while out running errands and Perriloux was the main topic everyone was talking about. From what the sports media is saying (as opposed to non-media callers) it sounds like this may go deeper than skipping a few classes while grieving. He may have been skipping classes before his father died.

WWL-870AM (50,000 watts of talk radio)has a listener poll going on this topic. At 1 p.m. central time, it was 67% kick him off the team and 33% give him another chance. (WWL would like to thank all their Alabama listeners for voting)
