If it restores the fish runs, you will be glad they did it. You do not want those runs to turn into Atlantic Salmon type runs in Maine.

Definitely, I am in full support of this ban. With a little luck and a few years of restraint. Hopefully, things can be restored. Five years ago over 800,000 salmon were counted heading upstream(Sacramento River), last year less than 60k. Good news is that a trip to Alaska may be in the plans!

Might have been good to start with a commercial ban only. But on the East Coast, Stripers made a huge comeback. Salmon have not been as easy though.

A couple of years could make a big difference.

They need to do the same thing with certain trout fisheries around the U.S. The Golden Gila trout is making a comeback thanks to the ban on it's capture awhile back.

I think it's even off the endangered species list now. Not sure though.

My Dad's other wife is a fishing pole... i'm sure he's a little bummed but there's so much more in the Pacific that it won't damper his beloved hobby. Maybe pops will catch more Halibut
