Pro Wrestling Thread
If you don't like pro wrestling, don't post here please (I know it's fake, but so is every movie you have watched and enjoyed). I figured we need a Professional Wrestling Thread here, since I have seen quite a few fans here. I spoke with NCRadioMan about the present state of wrestling, and we both agreed it has gone downhill from the earlier days, but I still am compelled by both TNA and WWE. (Ring of Honor gets some rave reviews by some also). All wrestling fans post in with your random comments. Hope there's some interest here.

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
I watch every Monday.....EVERY MONDAY....Getting kinda old story lines lately with the triad "main event" of HHH, Cena and Orton though...I think Undertaker needs to come back to Raw to liven things up.
Get GOLDBERG back!

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
I miss those days, although there is something to be said for today's wrestlers and the product. TNA has the better wrestlers, while WWE has the better marketing skills (CENA). I'm not sure if I like the new six-sided ring TNA offers, but they have excellent quality in the wrestling (women especially). Although as much as I hate what has happened to ECW, I see the people on that show as the new future of Prfessional Wrestling. Did you see WM 24? What did you think of that?

Do you think JBL has a chance at all this Sunday? I kind of see him winning it (don't ask why).

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
You must not have heard about the real incident with the overrated Goldberg and Chris Jericho in the WWE. They got into an argument backstage and Jericho slapped a front face lock on him and told him he woulld let him go, when he calmed down. Goldberg couldn't do anything. Jericho made a fool of him. Goldberg is not in the ring, today, because he is dangerous.. Numerous injuries to other wrestlers including the career ending kick to the head of Bret Hart.
Also, when Goldberg was on his "streak"in dubba-c-dubba, he faced Steven Regal. Regal made him look like a child in the ring. The next day Regal was fired for it. Goldberg was a flash in the pan, created to help dubba-c-dubba's ratings against WWF and it didn't work. I will give him one thing, he sure can head-butt walls, lockers, doors, etc. ![]() The way he used was perfect! He did put arses in the seats for WCW. He definatly has NFL strengh and he was a good entertainer. It's just because he didn't have the world-class skills that is needed for Vince's approval. And Vince is one picky bastid. Plus, he is a dubba-c-dubba produced star and Vince tends to favor "his boys". Especially the ole son-in-law Triple H. Most of this was taken from a post of ComicBookFreak. He says it better than me. Gotta love Sabu! I wish RVD would come back soon! Here is a pic of me with him. http://www.clubstogie.com/photo/show...user/1829/sl/n ![]() |

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
I miss the WCW. I saw the end of it coming when they started bringing in the talent from the WWF and Hulk went to the dark side with the NWO.
I just haven't been able to get into it for the last few years though as all my old favorites have either retired or have become parodies of what they used to be. But the women are still the hottest you can find on t.v. |

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
I started watching pro wrestling back in the 60's in SE Texas when my mother would drag me to the Friday night matches in Beaumont and then to the Channel 4 studio in Port Arthur for the live wrestling they used to televised. This was in the mid-60's and we would see some of the old stars like the Sheik and Sgt. Slaughter. I learned it was not real when we saw a chain match and one of the guys was beaten bloody with the chain and hauled out on a stretcher. He gave me his autograph after the matches were over when we left and he was standing outside smoking a cigar and drinking a beer.
On the other hand, there was one wrestler named Pepe Gomez who was extremely fast and agile - sort of like some of the wrestlers from Mexico who were big in the WCW. We were at the match where his opponent came off the top rope and landed on him wrong and ended his career. I don't remember if it crippled him our not, but I know it caused enough internal damage where he couldn't perform anymore. |

I agree about Goldberg. He was a lousy talent who injured too many others. Raw is OK. Think they should have given Jeff Hardy the Strap though. Both Hardy Brothers are better on the mic and have great matches. Even Regal is growing on me. He can put people over. I do not like Cena. Smackdown has improved a little too. I think Edge is a great talent. Though the romance angle is dull. I still think they should unify the two products. They need to do something about the entrances. That 8 man tag on Monday team had about 15 minutes of entrance music for a 10 minute match.

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
nWo was the greatest campaign in wrestling history IMO. That single handedly, at the time, made the #2 promotion (WCW) receive better ratings than the long standing WWF. I was a huge wresling fan for a long time. I still watch it from time to time. More TNA than WWE. WWE is just waaay too "Produced" to me. I love the grittyness that TNA brings. I haven't seen any Ring of Honor yet and it truely is a shame what has become of EC-dubb

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
ECW is not at all what it was, and never will it be again. But before you call it a joke, think about this (although I agree that I don't watch it either): look at the guys on there, such as CM Punk, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, and Kofi Kingston. They are the future of the WWE product. ECW is now similar to the minor leagues. They have the better wrestlers, yet the storylines suck. If you are a wrestling purist, and watch wrestling for athletic ability and high spots only (not for storylines), then this is the show with the best wrestling showcase on cable right now. Yes, I agree that this is not the old ECW, maybe they should rename it WCW or a new brand name.

Re: Pro Wrestling Thread
Old school for me is Magnum TA, Dusty Rhodes, Classic Ric Flair and the horsemen (Flair, Arn, Olie, and Tully), Midnight Express, Rock n Roll Express, Jake the Snake, Bruiser Brody, the Von Erich family, the Freebirds, Harley Race (a TRUE wrestling GOD!), and Wahoo. This is what I grew up on.
Although these fellows were before my time, I have watched many a match by: Buddy Rogers, LOU THESZ, Killer Kowalski, Verne Gagne, and Bruno Sammartino. These are true legends in the industry and paved the way for the boys of today. If you ever get to see an old match of any of these guys, you are in for a treat. ![]() |
