NFL draft

Anybody else enjoy this? I love it. I guess mainly because I'm such a huge college fan that is just rekindling his love of the NFL after a hiatus. I know its long, and Kiper's endless babbling can get old, but for some reason I love it.

Got several smokes lined up for it. Smart on the Dolphins to go ahead and get that first pick signed. I also think they were smart to shore up the OL first(considering they need help basically everywhere). I'm hoping this will really help my Auburn boy, Ronnie Brown.

My high first round bust pick is DeSean Jackson from Cal with Matt Ryan coming in a close second.

What are your thoughts, fellow football fans?

Re: NFL draft

Woohoo! I'm happy the Raiders got Darren McFadden. I know people say the backfield is loaded but I think they'll trade away Rhodes & Jordan. That would leave Fargas (1k+ yards last year), McFadden, & Michael Bush (who should be fully recovered from leg injury in college).

Only thing about this draft is that I am at work & sick. So not able to watch live or have a smoke. Sucks but oh well.

Go Raiders!

Re: NFL draft

I usually get pretty excited about the draft. It is something to kill the time between the end of the season till preseason. I can't wait fort college ball to start up again.

I am interested to see where the LSU guys go, most importantly Jacob Hester. I hope he gets a shot and does well.

I have a Taboo cameroon lit up right now. very tasty!!!

Also, hopefully you are right about the dolphins with their o line. I like ronnie brown a lot and think he will do better once some blocking is there.

Re: NFL draft

damn, one more thing.

I agree with you about Jackson and Ryan. I think they have been hyped a little too much by the ESPN folks. The same with Glenn Dorsey. I don't think he will be a bust, but I don't think he is as good as advertised. He had a lot of good help with him on that defense last year. But all they talked about was him.

Re: NFL draft

Gholston may be the most overrated. One good game against Jake Long and a good combine and he vaults himself to #6. Only time will tell I suppose.

It baffles me how much value some GMs put in the combine numbers. I think its important, but it would seem performance on the FIELD would trump anything a few tests would show. I could see putting a bit more importance on the combine with I-AA players and smaller I-A schools because of competition, but not a player from the BCS conferences.

I think that you have your head up your butt about Matt Ryan. I have followed his career at Boston College which is easy to do since I live in the area and am a BC season ticket holder but the feeling is that he will do well behind a professional offensive line and with decent receivers. Matt Ryan is the best quarterback prospect in the draft this year. I will admit that I do have a prejudice toward him. Paul

Every year combine numbers will vault people who are not good football players higher than normal, the same is said for big name players from big name schools. Overall I guess the draft is nothing but a crap shoot but sometimes a guy hits the lotto and ends up being a total bust (ie: Mike Williams) or you find a guy no one ever heard of and he becomes a pro-bowler (ie: TJ Houshmanzadeh).

Re: NFL draft

Well I guess Jackson can't be a huge bust considering he still hasn't be drafted. I was thinking he was going to go higher. My pick for steal of the first round is Felix Jones from Arkansas. If he was on any other team he would have been an All-American, imo. He's also a great kick returner so that's a plus.

Or Tom Brady or Troy Brown or Tedy Bruschi or Jerry Rice. I would like to thank Tenn for our first round draft pick, Jerod Mayo.

I completely agree. I think this kid will be damn good considering he all but carried BC. His recievers were average...the offensive line was nothing special..a lot of what BC accomplished was because of Ryan and their defense. It is certainly not going to be easy in Atlanta where it seems QB's go to die. Atlanta is not a very good team but Ryan has all the tools needed to suceed. Strong arm, very good size and most importantly a very accurate passer.

Re: NFL draft

I love the Chiefs' draft so far! We got one of the highest rated players in the draft at number 5 in Dorsey, and we got a stud at 15 in Albert. We addressed two huge needs, and we still have 3 picks left in the first three rounds. We are probably still going to suck next year, but we are definitely injecting some good talent into this team. I believe football games are won by the team that can control the line of scrimmage (just ask the NY Giants), and the Chiefs have done well to improve both sides of the ball early. Go Chiefs!

I also followed his career, albeit, probably not a closely as you. I just don't think he's a worthy top 3 pick. I think he's going so high because he's the best of a poor QB class. Kinda like what's his face at SF.

BC had a nice season, but not a great one. The ACC was also fairly weak imo.

But hey, I could be quite wrong but I certainly don't have my head up my butt.

You're not the only one. Dominant OL and DL can make up for a lack of "skill" players. It doesn't the work the other way.
