The other problem is that the Bengals would have picked up additional draft picks (including a first-rounder), meaning more money that Mike Brown would have to spend. Trading Chad would have cost nearly $13.5 million, it is cheaper to keep him.

Bottom line is I think they are calling his bluff. When it comes time for Chad to have to pay for his absence (ie: Mandatory Mini-Camp, Training Camp and the Season) I think he will be there.
I understand that, but when he is there he is a MAJOR distraction. That team can not handle that. Pay the money and get on with it. Build your team and move forward without him.

I love Jared Allen, and he was great for us, but don't kid yourself, his price tag was enormous for the Vikes (much more than basically a first round pick!). I hope he pans out for you though! That trade was a win for both teams; we needed draft picks, and you guys wanted Jared. Oh yeah, I give the Chiefs an A, it's not hard considering we had eleventy-billion picks. I am really high on our first three picks though. Brandon Flowers is going to thrive under Herm's tutelage.
Actually, we gave up our first round pick and both of our third round picks. Admittedly, this was more than I wanted to give up for Allen, but I’m still happy with the acquisition. And if nothing else, Jacksonville’s highly suspect trade with Baltimore to move up to the 8th spot to pick up Derrick Harvey made our trade for Allen look like a steal. Jacksonville swapped their first round pick, gave up two third round picks and a fourth round pick to move up to draft Harvey, and he hasn’t even taken a single snap in the NFL. At least Allen is a proven player who has shown a propensity to get to the quarterback.

I understand what you’re saying about his price tag, but it’s all relative. In a couple of years from now his salary will be in line with many other defensive players, and in 6 years when his contract is about to expire, he’ll be making significantly less than many other inferior players.

And I can assure you that we didn’t sign Jared Allen for his run stopping abilities. The Vikings were ranked number one against the run last year, and that’s not his role on this club. His job is specifically to get after the quarterback and create chaos behind the line of scrimmage. The Williams wall and our linebackers will be responsible for stopping the run, we just need Allen to pressure the quarterback and get a few sacks. Last year the Vikings were one of the worst defenses against the pass, and that is the direct result of our lack of a pass rush. Allen solves this problem and our secondary should benefit significantly from this.

You are correct though, that trade definitely benefited both teams. After reading a few different reviews of the draft, it sounds like the majority of analysts agreed that Kansas City had the best draft. Good luck to your squad. I think you guys are going to have one hell of a team in a couple years.

I think the Skins may have done well. Really loaded up on some targets for Campbell to throw too. The guy Mich. St. is a one year wonder, so who knows, but has potential. TE from USC has the makings to be a really good TE and I love when a team has two good TEs. We'll see and all I know is, I can't wait for football!!

...A much needed RB to fill in a much needed 3rd position

I'm happy as a lark. But, then,....we still have to sign them, which isn't Carl Peterson's best ability as GM (does he HAVE a best ability as GM?)

Still ... not this year .... maybe not next .... but in 3 years, watch out!
I say the Vikings deserve an A not necessarily for their picks but how well they managed everything related to this draft. Although it wasn't reflected in their record the Vikings have a lot of talent and there was no way they were going to find 9 rookies with the talent to make their roster. All five of the guys they picked were good value and have a chance to make their roster. Allen adds an all pro to creates the best d-line in football and a top 5 championship caliber defense.

As long as Jared Allen doesn't get a DUI between now and September it's off his NFL record and he doesn't get suspended if something happens down the road.

In the fantasy world where Jared Allen as is could have been eligible for this draft he would have easily gone #1 overall and the Vikes got him for the cost of moving up to number 8. Jacksonville gave roughly the same picks for an unproven rookie DE who's will be cheaper but still expensive with greater risk.

I think the Vikings and Chiefs both did very well in the deal. Chiefs needed picks to rebuild, the Vikings needed an impact defensive end both got what they needed. The Chiefs got lucky with Dorsey (congratulations) could be the best player in the draft. They also drafted well with their other picks. 2010 could be a Chiefs v. Vikings Superbowl rematch with the good guys in Purple winning this time.

Falcons:

I think they did good, not that it matters, we will still lose about every game this year.

It sucks to be a Falcons fan, but I am.

Cardinals...eh C- they addressed some needs. I wanted Mendenhall in the first...Edge is getting old and we need someone to replace him in a year or two. But we definatley need a Corner so thats cool.

And Yes I know it is hard to believe...there are Cardinal Fans

You are absolutely right, I don't know why I had a brain fart and mixed up the 3rd round pick for a 5th round! Anyhow, totally a win win. Jared wasn't going to resign with us, so getting those three picks was huge for us. You guys got the biggest impact player of the off season. Good luck to both teams!
