Your teams NFL Draft Grade

What grade would you give your favorite NFL team?

I am a Vikings fan and so I would have to go with a solid B.

You have to start with the trade with Kansas City for Jared Allen. No worries of a hold out and you are pretty much guarenteed a pro bowler at DE next year (barring injury of course). Can't beat that for basically a first round pick.

First actual pick Safety Tyrell Jackson which a lot of people have said was probably the best saftey in the draft. Next pick was not until round 5 but picking up John David Booty at this spot was a great get. I am not sold on Tavaris Jackson and this is a little insurance. USC is about as close to a NFL type invironment as your likely to get.

The last three picks were a DT, C and a WR with a ton of speed. I can honestly see all of these guys making the team.

One of the biggest issues the Vikes had last year was not being able to stop the pass so a lot of people were upset with not getting any corners but IMO the real problem was a lack of a pass rush. If the QB has a half hour back there to throw the ball he is going to find someone open eventually.

So how did your team do?

I would give my Titans a C-. I would have given then a D, but I am listing to Fisher defend his picks so I bumped them up a bit.

Re: Your teams NFL Draft Grade

A+...Home Run....Beating Santa Clause to the plate of cookies

...Getting rid of a stud DE who'se next DUI will sideline him for a year

...Picking up Glen Dorsey as a number 5, when he really should have been long gone

...Trading up to snag Brandon Albert at number 15, when we had him on our take list for the # 5 spot.

...A young TE with a whole lot of promise, to benefit from Gonzo's tutelage, while we still have him to tutor.

...A much needed RB to fill in a much needed 3rd position

I'm happy as a lark. But, then,....we still have to sign them, which isn't Carl Peterson's best ability as GM (does he HAVE a best ability as GM?)

Still ... not this year .... maybe not next .... but in 3 years, watch out!

It seems like the rest of our already strong division got even better too.

Re: Your teams NFL Draft Grade

Broncos, B+. got the left tackle i wanted in ryan clady, filled needs in special teams, offense, and defense. really like the day 2 picks. running back ryan torian from ASU, has the running style and body type of terrell davis, but he fell to the 5th round because of an injury. might have reached for wr royal in the 2nd round, but they need a return man bad. all good character guys for a change as well. with san diego already stacked and KC hitting the lottery with the way the picks fell, denver needed a solid draft and i think they got one.

Raiders C

I think they got the offensive star they have needed for quite a while. Yet with so few picks it is tough to address the team. Perhaps DMC can keep the offense on the field longer so our defense doesn't have to play 40-45 minutes every game.

I give the Patriots an A.

Why? I know nothing about college football, I don't follow the players.

I JUST TRUST BILL.

So, it must be an A for the Pats.

Re: Your teams NFL Draft Grade

I give the Saints a B+

We didn't get Dorsey but Ellis is close behind him according to most reports. Dorsey got higher marks because he played half this last season hurt and still had an impact.

Saints did good on concentrating on defensive players with the exceptions of the drafting a kicker - which we really need - and for the big question mark named Carl Nicks. I hate seeing a team use a draft pick on someone who has had maturity and other problems. On the other hand, if he can get his feces together he may be a good pick.

I only give the Saints the B+ because I feel they should have also gone for a QB in the late rounds to challenge Palko for the back-up position. My pick (yeah, it's a homer) would have been Matt Flynn. He gets no respect from the media but he has the potential to be a good, tough quarterback down the road. But, when you are missing picks in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th round, you have to address your needs first and see who will get cut by their teams.

Steelers B+
I watched a few Illinois games and Rashard Mendenahll looked good. Not to mention we picked up Limas Sweed whos 6'5 and fell the whole way to the 2nd round for us. Ben wanted a tall reciever now he has one. Bruce Davis looks solid as well. Overall I think it was a good draft.

Unfortunately I'm more of college fan, GO PITT!

Whoa, let's not get carried away here, you guys gave up a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick, and a fifth round pick! Of course he didn't hold out, you also made him the highest payed defender in the league (that's outrageous for a one time pro bowler who is suspect against the run)! I love Jared Allen, and he was great for us, but don't kid yourself, his price tag was enormous for the Vikes (much more than basically a first round pick!). I hope he pans out for you though! That trade was a win for both teams; we needed draft picks, and you guys wanted Jared. Oh yeah, I give the Chiefs an A, it's not hard considering we had eleventy-billion picks. I am really high on our first three picks though. Brandon Flowers is going to thrive under Herm's tutelage.

Dolphins: B-

After using the 1st pick on a monster OT, Parcells tried to fill as many need positions as possible and, for the most part, did but I think he took a gamble on some players from smaller schools and guys coming off injuries. We'll see.

Re: Your teams NFL Draft Grade

I'll give the Bengals a C+.

Keith Rivers is going to be a stud. Our LB corps are going to be solid if Brooks comes back healthy and Odell is even close to what he was two years ago. Picking Jerome Simpson in the 2nd round was a stretch, but I think he's going to be a solid. Pat Sims has all the making to be a great d-tackle. Andre Caldwell is a great receiver that made big plays in big games in college. Jason Shirly is an ABSOLUTE ANIMAL at almost 6'6 330 but has character issues. The TE pick was a WASTE. Cory Lynch blocked and ran back the field goal to beat Michigan the 1st game of the year, so he's good in my book. Angelo Craig is an average DE from the hometown Bearcats. And finally Mario Urrutia from Louisville. He has some work ethic issues, but you can't deny 4.4 speed and being a 6'6 WR.

In the end the Bengals have a lot to prove. They have been widely criticized for not moving up and trying make a move at Ellis like the Saints did. There are a couple questionable picks in our draft and 1 clear waste of a pick.

I am sorry. You have to look at the fact they refused to trade Chad for picks that would have helped them out even more, a 1st this year and possible 1st next year. I can not take anything they do seriously. He has hurt that team for the last two years with his antics. It was time to let him go while they could still get something for him.

The problem with Chad is it is cheaper to keep him, and we all know that the Brown's are notoriously cheap. If the Bengals would have traded Chad, they would still have been on the hook for $8.5 million and forced take that salary cap hit. The other problem is that the Bengals would have picked up additional draft picks (including a first-rounder), meaning more money that Mike Brown would have to spend. Trading Chad would have cost nearly $13.5 million, it is cheaper to keep him.

Bottom line is I think they are calling his bluff. When it comes time for Chad to have to pay for his absence (ie: Mandatory Mini-Camp, Training Camp and the Season) I think he will be there.
