Re: Euro 08 Pool

yowza! tomorrow looks like the big day for the pool without a doubt. Well played to you both.

Is Lahm's value going down or is he getting extra credit for playing out of position?

Looks like the Germans are back to grinding them out a bit. I'd like to see Russia take the silverware but in the end, Germany will probably do it. Nutz.

Re: Euro 08 Pool

Just got back from a wine tasting...

Very boring game. That said, Turkey actually had a chance. Germans looked slow and lethargic, have no idea if they will be able to show up for the final. But their "Italian job" of playing 6-7 people behind the ball worked out in the end. So now we know they can beat half the Turkey team...

And who the hell let Swiss host the games without making sure they can actually SHOW games? Anyone there heard of backup generators?

Lahm's stock, IMO, went down with this game. A LOT. Have no idea who thought ManU will be bidding to buy him, but I seriously hope this was simply a joke of a rumor Even Schweinsteiger was outplayed and outhustled, he seemed slow for most of the game. Unreal. And Ballack wasn't seen.

Wow! Stock going down on a player that has a great cross for an assist and then scores the winning goal in the 90th minute all while playing a position he is not comfortable with? You must be a very difficult man to impress.

As far as the video outages in the game that was not their fault. They still had power thats why the local feed was still active. A television tower for the international feed was struck by lightning.

Whoa! What were they serving at that wine tasting?!
I disagree with everything you said, except for the bit about Ballack having a quiet game.

Re: Euro 08 Pool

Mostly I agree. I think the Germans looked a bit more "controlled" were as the turks were throwing everything they had, as of course, there was nothing left if they didn't. Lahm's stock going down.. even he said he didn't have the best match of his life... but I guess coming through when it counts is good for something.

Re: Euro 08 Pool

Today. Is the day of reckoning... well almost... For the Spaniards and the Ruskies... more importantly to us, because if Russia wins today, (by my fuzzy math) MasterShogun walks away with the prize. If Russia wins today he will have a total of 42.5 points, putting him a whopping 15.5 points ahead of Rail Runner, who picked Germany to win it all. Even if Germany wins out, for a total of 13 points for all those who have picked Germany to win, Rail runner falls short by 2.5 points. Am I correct? This whole addition and subtraction kills me every time.

That's why we've made the computer do it Mastershogun is also MasterFactChecker so if I miss any goals or assists he's on my butt like ugly on a gorilla.

But yes, If Russia send Spain home I think it's settled

Re: Euro 08 Pool

Ronaldo's stock REALLY went down and he had WAY BETTER last game (than Lahm did last night). One play does not make a player and Lahm simply disappeared for 90+ minutes, not only that but he was beaten time and again by the second string players. Not tough to please, simply stating the obvious. And yes, now that Ronaldo had an off tournament, Real are all of a sudden backing off on their claims to pay "whatever it takes". I am sure teams wanting Lahm will do the same now. Rumors were there about ManU making a bid for Lahm, I seriously hope they don't, their backups are better than Lahm. Now, if we're talking Ramos, then its a different story...

And as much as Ballack had a quiet game, it is Schweinsteiger that really surprised me, he is usually all over the pitch intimidating opposing players, yet Turkey beat him to the ball almost every time. I just hope Germans recover for Sunday, physically and mentally, but they usually grind out wins and I expect them to be their usual selves. Except if they end up playing Russia

Right after I posted last night I saw the news release indicating it was a failure of equipment in Austria that failed. Same deal, then, shouldn't someone test this thing a number of times before the tournament started and make sure backup power and instant switchover work. This is not an island in Bora Bora, this is Europe.

As for wine tasting, well, I watched the game way prior to the tasting I've been playing the game for too long now (and still do) to make proper analysis and I simply reported what I saw. Playing 6-7 people behind the ball does not make for an exciting game.
