Spain has a huge advantage with Fabregas starting, he's the only reason Spain was able to beat Russia twice, before he stepped on the pitch (both games) the play was pretty much even for the most part. Loss of Villa is no big deal, really, especially against a much bigger German defense.

Ballack may not play and if he doesn't (I still don't believe that), then Spain's chances just increased, a lot, IMO. Podolski is good enough to negate Fabregas (and visa versa) and Schweinsteiger, as good as he is, won't be able to deal with both Ramos AND Senna, Arshavin proved that already.

http://disk919.com/bb2/cs/euro2008/ and I agree that smaller david villa doesn't do much against some of the biiger boys but Nando isn't small and he's pretty strong, I specifically remember him throwing Vidic and Rio F down, not at the same time mind you, but I think he's big enough to hold his own... now Jan Koller.. thats a big boy. I think if they run a single striker setup, I feel torres will deliver. Why would ballack not play, first I've heard of this, and if Frings has 3 cracked ribs and is going to push through ballack better be missing toes.... and now that I've read the ESPN/foxsoccer.com pages.. ok well I wouldn't complain if the ballack didn't play... give spain better chance... but I still don't buy it. i'm with you eastbay.

The way I see it, if Germany wins, the best I can do is 2nd place -- unless Klose produces a pair of assists/goals and Torres, Fabregas, and Gomez do nothing.

So, not to count my or anything, but what's 2nd place get? Set of steak knives?

Lastly, if Ballack can't go, does anyone think Germany can still do it?

Spain played a better game, by far.


And I said before, Lahm's stock went down even further, have no idea why people rate him so highly.

Senna's and Ramos', on the other hand, went way up, they are my 2 standouts in the tournament. Not that Puyol didn't do a great job, either. Incredible back line for Spain.

Torres put lahm at the whipping post and pulled out a quite spectacular goal. I was unable to see the match, but was getting constant text updates. I didn't exactly see what happened with the ballack iker card scenario... anyone care to elaborate?

Now, I'm dying to know, what made you pick the Netherlands? All the pre-tournament talk from all the pundits said that Holland not only had a shockingly bad defense, but that they were sure to implode from the rampant infighting. How did you know different?
