Re: US Open
i have to admit i am very conflicted on tiger woods. i rarely root for him because he is the ultimate overdog and while he definitely respects the game, he seems to respect little else. i am in awe of his ability and incredible focus, but yet while i can drop an f-bomb with the best of them, he seems overly gratuitious with his use of them on the golf course, both in good and bad times.
he is often compared to michael jordan and i am the biggest mj fan. yet tiger still puts me off at times. i think the fact that he has yet to contribute in a meaningful way in any international team competition bothers me more than anything. with his game and focus he should be able to lead the USA to domination in the Ryder cup, but he always fails miserably. Jordan, albeit in a team sport to begin with, always came up big for his country. i just read the rick reilly espn the mag column on tiger and phil this week, and although i think his point was to make tiger look good, i found phil much more to my liking. especially when he said that phil is a far better tipper than tiger (i am a part time bartender) tipping to me is a great indicator of character (not 100% of the time of course) and in most situations i find that poor tippers have serious character flaws. Still, i don't know tiger, and have never met him. i am just going on what i see. i will root for him whenever he represents our country and hope that someday he may excel on that stage as much as he does on the pga tour. if so, he may have a converted fan in me.

Re: US Open
Humm..
MJ is and always will be a legend, but how he contributed to the team was drawing so much attention from the opponents allowing his team mates to be open. Top that off with MJ's ability to shoot the ball wherever he wants and be consistant. Tiger cant swing the club for his team mates, he cant make the putts for his team mates. The rest of the Ryder Cup Team has to beat thier own opponents. All Tiger can do is play his game and win his matches, what more can he do? I am sure if there was a way for him to draw the attention of his team mates opponents he would. The Tiger Woods Foundation is amazing I provided the link to it: http://www.tigerwoodsfoundation.org/ as far as the F-Bombs I think what makes it seem so bad is the camera is always on him. I remember when he said "GOD DAMN IT!" Johnnie Miller about sh.. himself. Miller is a hardcore Mormon and meet him a few times. My wifes parents are Mormon and good friends with him and his wife and kids. He is extremely snotty and talks down his nose at you. Bottom line is were all human and have flaws, tigers are just magnified because of the camera. |

Ho-hum. I doubt anybody thought he would miss. Especially after taking some extra time over it.

Re: US Open
I kind of want Rocco to win. He seems like a nice guy. Think Tiger will take it though.

Re: US Open
Can someone give me a brief replay, we dont have a tv to watch anything here anymore. I was clicking my mouse like a crack head to try and keep updating the score cards. I see Tiger made a 12ft birdie to force a playoff. When is the playoff? Kinda asking how there shots were from Tbox to green.

Like there was any doubt? Tiger Woods makes ANOTHER putt for the ages, rolling it in the side door from 12 feet away to clinch a playoff with Rocco Mediate tomorrow. There, I said it. Playoff. Playoff. Playoff. Hey, if we've got to come back, at least Tiger Woods is in the mix. 5:51 p.m.: Biggest putt of Tiger's career? Maybe, maybe not. It's certainly up there, though. 5:50 p.m.: Biggest putt of Lee Westwood's career ... and he pushes it to the right. Ouch. Yeah, he won't have nightmares or anything about that one. A final-round 73 leaves him 1 shot back. 5:48 p.m.: Uh-oh. Does Rob's question at 5:43 p.m. mean I mentioned the p-word indirectly? I did type it with my own two fingers. May have just blog jinxed myself. 5:46 p.m.: From a great position in the fairway, Westwood can't get his to spin back. It stays about 15-20 feet above the hole. If either makes his putt, we'll be back tomorrow. If both miss, it's all Rocco. 5:45 p.m.: So much for not being able to spin it. Tiger spins one back to 12 feet. Will have that for birdie. Anyone wanna bet he won't make it? Not me. 5:43 p.m.: Good question from Rob in Dallas: How many people would show up for a Mediate/Westwood playoff? Plenty of good seats still available. 5:42 p.m.: Westwood, meanwhile, knocks his second shot right down the fairway. Perfect position. 5:41 p.m.: Tiger's second shot goes into the right rough. He's not happy about it and for good reason. Gonna be tough to spin one out of there. 5:39 p.m.: Cool that two-time champion and Rocco's good buddy Lee Janzen is hanging with him in the scorer's trailer. 5:36 p.m.: Life's a beach. Lee Westwood drives into the right bunker, Tiger Woods drives into the left bunker and it looks like we'll have a couple of players laying up on the par-5 18th. 5:32 p.m.: Tiger Woods makes par at the 17th. So does Lee Westwood (great putt). Both are at even-par and 1 behind Mediate with one hole to play. And here we go, golf fans. Eagle for either one means a U.S. Open title. Birdie means a p-word tomorrow. And a pair of pars means Rocco Mediate is the oldest U.S. Open champion in history.

Re: US Open
Is this playoff format used at other tournaments or is it just the Open? I think I like the idea over sudden death. Not sure though.
