US Open

Well day one is done and the early leaders are Justin Hicks and Kevin Streelman at 3 under. I watched most of the Phil and Tiger show today and it was good to see Woods recover from the double on number 1. Phil hung in there and ended up even for the day. Some great golf. I was a little bummed that ESPN showed exactly 0% of Mike Weir. Where's the Canadian content???

So is anyone else interested in this thing? It would be good to get a pool or something going, although we are already into the tourney.

So who do you like in this?

I'd love to see Tiger, Phil or Weir win.

That was one of the most amazing performances I have seen in a long time. Talk about a gutty performance. I really hope Tiger has enough left to finish it. WOW!

I am sure he was in pain but frankly, I have been playing golf with a hip joint that has been bone on bone for 15 years now (grinding the joint/bone down right at 2 inches). I have improved my handicap this year by 4 strokes even though this is the worse "pain year" for me. I limp around the course like a cripple and it takes two to three days to, somewhat, recover. When he can do that, then I'll really be impressed.

With that said, his talent is freaky-deaky.

I've got 2 hip replacements and look like a freak when I swing but still love a good golf game or watching a match.I call it a webble wobble around the course instead of an enjoyable stoll accompained by a golf game.I pull for Tiger just cause he's playing in pain
Anyone going to Oakland Hills In Mi. this august for the Tournament ?

Re: US Open

One of the most ridiculous rounds I have ever seen. Just surreal. If he doesn't one hop it into the cup it is probably off the other side of the green. He is cool enough that he was laughing because he can admit he dodged a bullet there. The two eagle putts were things of beauty. Huge breaks. Just amazing. It's a privilege to watch him play. Gotta give a little respect to Rocco for just keeping on keeping on. Until he missed that putt on 18 he was doing a great job of holding it together facing down the best player of this generation if not of all time. Tomorrow should be fun.

Re: US Open

Just an observation, but his knee doesn't seem to bother him when he dances across the friggin' green fist pumping, does it?

Not taking anything away from the guy. I think he's the best to ever swing a golf club....but I get an overwhelming sense of "drama queen" whenever I watch him play anymore. The swing stops at the top when he hears a camera click...the ridiculous follow throughs when he hits a shot out of trouble. I don't see too many other guys do that.

Go Rocco!

WOW!!! Talk about raining on a parade. Adrenaline is a good cure for what ails you....the torque of the swing is what effects the knee. As far as the "Drama Queen" comments , maybe it's because those "other" golfers dont have anyone watching them. Have you ever watched a tournament when Tiger isn't playing......theres maybe 2 or 3 deep galleries, when Tiger plays and there 20-30 deep. That allows for the obnoxious, casual fan that doesn't know golf etiquette. Thats allot of people making allot of noise.

If you play, then you could appreciate how hard he swings the club to get out of trouble which accounts for the "rediculous follow through." To call him out on that is just grasping for straws. He is the greatest golfer of all time...PERIOD!!!!

You have no idea how much competitive golf I've played (2 NCAA national championships). And I can certainly appreciate that he's the best golfer that's ever played the game. I also know how hard he goes after the ball and know plenty of other guys that have swing speed comparable to his-- mine's not terribly far off.

As far as the galleries being 20-30 deep when he plays....what about his playing partners? I never see them grab swing at the top.. Is that obnoxious fan activity not occuring when they step up to hit a shot? I venture to say the galleries are less considerate because they're less interested in watching the other players in his group. They're too busy scrambling and shuffling around to see what Tiger's going to do next.

I stand by my comments that the guy is over dramatic sometimes

He treats the galleries like shit, and he's about as friendly as an angry pit bull. I had the "pleasure" of meeting and talking with him once and he made it seem like a terrible burden. The other players I've gotten to meet and converse with have been true gentlemen. Maybe I'm slightly jaded.

But to say that I haven't played enough to understand what he's doing, you're just completely incorrect...

Re: US Open

I dont see it as being over dramatic, maybe his intensity level and passion for the game is really high. I know from playing many many sports including golf that when you sink that monster putt and you get that adreneline rush you react in ways that are uncharacteristic. I will never forget the time I drilled a 367yrd drive on the 1st hole at Misawa in Japan. I ran off the T-box and gave a chest bump to a random japanese national. I didnt realize what I did till I was on the 2nd T-Box.

I have dislocated my right shoulder 2x now, I know for fact there are times when it doesnt bother me and other times where a simple bunker shot makes me want to cry. I think Tiger is a true and genuine golfer. The man makes more money then my entire family tree and dont see why he would have the need to draw extra attention to himself.

Do the NCAA championships come from team play and not individual?

Just my random thoughts......
