Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
Sorry you puppies missed being able to watch Gayle Sayers - The best of today are still trying unsuccessfully to copy his moves and style.
I miss being able to watch Larry Brown from the Redskins - he was so reckless with his body that his career was short. But man - was he something to watch. Emmitt Smith was something special to watch as well.. I remember the game when the Cowboys beat the Giants on the last day of the season to knock them oput of the playoff - he dislocated his shoulder early in the game and still managed to dominate the day. What a heart this man had when it came to never giving up.

j/k I'd go with Sanders. He was the human highlight film. I actually admire him for leaving as he did, at the top of his game. He should call Favre. |

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
While I definitely agree with Brown, Payton, Sanders and Sayers, I'm suprised there hasn't been any mention of guys like Eric Dickerson and Tony Dorsett. I loved watching Dickerson's upright running style and Dorsett looked like we was on skates. It's a shame what happened to Bo Jackson....OH what could've been.

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
I am not saying at all he is the best running back ever....but at Boise State we kind of like this guy. This will be his Senior year, and this is his Heisman video from his Sophmore year. Last year he took the year easy, but this year I think we might be seeing more from him. Great kid with lot of potential and heart.

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
Barry had moves that would break most mens ankles. I was lucky enough to see him play a few times and was always amazed at his ability to make the best defencive backs look like, well me trying to tackle him.
I would bet he could still gain 100 yards on most NFL teams today.

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
I think thats something that needs to be said when discussing the greatest ever, can they play in todays game? Alot of players would have trouble with the size and athletic ability of the guys today, but the greats could fit it in perfectly.

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
I was at the Michigan-Ohio State where Tim pretty much single handedly got us the victory by put up 313 yards on the then #2 ranked OSU team that included Eddie George, Terry Glenn, Orlando Pace, and Mike Vrabel. If he handed been significantly injured pretty much his entire career in the NFL, we may be talking about him as one of the greats.

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
Barry was Great. What I did notice in the video was that Sanders was getting some blocking...especially down field. I would say it is an urban legend that Barry got no blocking.

Sanders is tough to beat though. He was the most entertaining back I have ever watched. Nobody could cut back like him. Too bad he did not play on a better team.

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
Barry Sanders here. He was amazing and played at OSU which is about fifty miles from where I live.
Thurman Thomas a close second as he was really the first hybrid back who could catch as well as run. For you football fans have you ever seen this site? I've been on here a while and can get my fix of football games in the off season. They have a bunch of classic games you can get and watch. |

Re: Best running back ever...aka I miss football
I'm watching the Mud Bowl from 1977 between LA and Minnesota right now!
I've been downloading it all day! It is worth it alone for the Ford Futura commercial and OJ Simpson Hertz commercial! LOL! Last edited by blugill; 07-27-2008 at 11:40 PM.. |
