Going to a Yankees game
I was talking to my uncle last week and he told me he really, really wants to see a game @ Yankee stadium this year. So I got 3 tickets for the Sunday 8/31 game, it will be me, my uncle and my step dad.
We are leaving from Trenton (me by way of Philly) and taking the northeast extension train into Penn station. Can anyone recommend the best way to get out to the stadium? Right now it looks to me the best way would be to walk from Penn station to Herald Square and then take the D to Yankee stadium. Is that the easiest way? What should I know having never taken the subway in NY before (usually I walk or take cabs since I am in Manhattan)? Anything else I should be aware of?

Re: Going to a Yankees game
Wish I could help. But I always drive to Yankee stadium, the agony of finding parking, the rush out, and the horrific ride home are all part of the experience for me.

Re: Going to a Yankees game
You wanna know the BEST way to get in and out? This will literally avoid all the crowds as NO ONE does this. Last night I successfully took this route in and out of the packed Home Run Derby crowd. Take the the A train to the GWB Bus Terminal (181st st I think). Walk out the front door (past the escalators) and walk to the right, to the corner. Cross the street in the direction of the Rite-Aid and find the bus stop for the #13 bus (you can ask an employee at the bus terminal for better directions to the stop, but it is about 100-150 feet from the door). The bus is $2 (just like the subway) and stops right at Yankee Stadium (on River Ave). No one coming from Jersey does this and when we got on the bus last night, there were 5 people on it. Beats the hell out of the sea of humanity piling into the Subway station. If you're uncomfortable with trying to find the bus, etc, then maybe the Subway is better, but there's no comparison IMHO. Whatever route you take, make sure you check when the last train home is and budget enough time to get back!

Re: Going to a Yankees game
Try the "Yankee Clipper"- it even runs from Hoboken- might save a couple of dollars on NJT.
