Jason Taylor to Redskins

As of yesterday, Bill Parcells and Jason Taylor will not have to worry about friction as a result of JT not being at OTAs or training camp for the Miami Dolphins. Jason was traded to the Washington Redskins for a 2nd round pick in the next draft and a 6th rounder in 2010.

As a longtime Dolphin fan, I will really miss JT. I have an autographed football by him and Zach Thomas (now a Cowboy). Regardless of the recent off-the-field issues, he was still the face of the Miami Dolphins and a true leader. The Redskins are getting a great person and a great football player. (And they need him now that 2 defensive linemen have gone down with season ending injuries the first week of training camp).

Patrick, take care of my boy. I guess now I have a reason to keep an eye on the Skins.

We'll take good care of him! I'm very happy about this trade, he's definately got some good years left in him!!

Good for him for getting traded to a team that has some life in it and can make its way into the playoffs.

I just hope for the Redskins that he does not go to Hollywood to pursue is acting career first!

I think the Redskins got a hell of a deal. It only cost them a 2nd round and 6th round draft pick, IIRC.

The Redskins haven't used the draft ever since the current owner took charge. He's tried to buy teams through primarily free agency and trading for aging over the hill, overpriced vets.

Hasn't worked for them yet.

Dont remind me, thank God I remember the glory days of the Skins under Cooke. Danny Boy needs to hire people who know football and not guys who are yes men. I just wish we did what we all thought we should have in the draft, shore up our weak line instead of drafting two WRs and a TE. But, theres always next year.

I don't have anything against the Redskins, but I hate whenever they are on national TV. I get tired of them showing Daniel Snyder and his reactions every 3 minutes

Re: Jason Taylor to Redskins

I think this trade works for both teams. 'Skins get short term help on a team that is close to competing and the 'fins get more draft help they need for the future. And leave it to Bill Parcels to make a gem out of BOTH picks!

We use the draft, the problem is we dont use it effectively, the only guys in red that are still on our team are Jansen (injury prone), Samuels (pro-bowl guy), Smoot (gone, but back), Cooley (key part of the offense), Campbell (we spent way to much on this guy), Rogers (serious injury last year, hope he recovers). The other guys filled the positions but some didnt live up to what we thought they would and we couldnt afford some in order to make room for big names. Champ Bailey is the best person in that list (minus what would have been an amazing career for Taylor), and we traded him away for an RB, a deal which still baffles me.

What I get upset with is how we toss out draft picks thinking they dont matter, and we go after guys in their 30's who are in the twilight of their career. See, Deion, Bruce Smith, Brunnel, Archuletta and now I'm afraid we did the same with Jason Taylor. We arent going to compete this year or next year, so I dont see the point in throwing out a possible top 40 pick (that second rounder) who will start with the team for years to come for a guy who will be on this team a max of two years. But its Danny being Danny, just for heavens sake, please dont go after Favre.

For the most part, the draft is a crap shoot. Players who dominated in college sometimes flop in the NFL. Injuries can't be predicted by anyone. What's wrong with taking a chance on an established defensive 6-time pro-bowler? Especially when you lose two defensive ends for the season on the first day of training camp?

The deal was a no-brainer for the Redskins in my opinion.

As stated my frustration goes back us not addressing this in the offseason with the draft. We went in there knowing that the defensive line was our weakest spot and we didnt address it. The whole organization was in disaray. We hired a DC and OC before hiring a coach then went back and made our OC our head coach (a man who has only been a QB coach in the past). Then we go into the draft and yes we need bigger recievers but to use our first three picks on positions that werent the bigger issue just didnt make sense. Furthermore, to finally address the need with 240 pick shows that the Skins didnt take it seriously. Then we are hampered by an injury with a guy who was 35 (another reason to use a draft pick on a DL) and use a second round pick on a guy who is 33 and at the end of his career. This trade helps make us a better team now, but wont help us in the long run. Im just frustrated that this team thinks they can go after aging vets to fill holes when thats not how you win championships. It hasnt worked since Snyder got here. I guess its another year of being 6-10 or 7-9 and a middle of the road draft pick.

Re: Jason Taylor to Redskins

As a Dolphins fan I'm okay with this trade. Of course only time will tell whether it was worth it. Taylor always brought something to the table, whether he was in a slump or even injured he always brought leadership. Alas, the Fins are thinking about the future so they had to make this move I guess.

I'm with Parcells...whatever he does is good enough for me.

I agree. I'm just happy someone like Taylor was available once this happened. You're right though, they should've added depth to this position with an earlier draft selection.
