ECU did well last year too, Holtz the younger is a good coach. VT is always overrated IMHO, Beamerball, what bullshit. WV coach wont last a season, but yes, ECU should be ranked top 15 this week, they are the only team to beat two top20 schools so far (as per the "experts" pre-season rankings).

West Virginia didn't belong anywhere near #8. VT didn't belong anywhere near #17. ECU definitely belongs somewhere in the Top 25. I think both teams (and several other in the Top 25) were ranked entirely on past performance. Past performance doesn't mean crap in college football, take a look at FSU and Miami for example.

I think the take-home message of those two games is "preseason rankings are complete and utter " I'd love to see preseason ranking completely eliminated.

Agreed. I think if things don't improve fast N-Dame will be shopping .. and lil Holtz has connections up there. I love watching a well-coached but underrated team .. can blast poorly coached teams with ostensibly better talent most days, as we have seen.

While I think ECU MIGHT and this is a long shot MIGHT be a good team against a good opponent it would be nice to see them take on someone besides the very overrated WVU.

I think ECU deserves a top 20 spot though based on the system but it is also an argument that there really shouldn't be any polls until about week five.

EXACTLY!!!!!
They mean NOTHING what so ever!!!!

There are always those teams who have no business being ranked (WVU) and wind up in the top ten because of last season.

Think of all the debate that would happen as well when the first season poll would come out by week six! Now it kind of sucks because there isn't any mystery by the time the BCS poll comes out.

Everyone would be (team x) deserves to be number one but (team y) has a valid claim as well!

and the number 1 team rarely ends up that way. Not that UGA ain't good, but IMHO not THAT good. Only time will tell.
