Thumbs up Sosa - retiring?

yes, i gave it a thumbs up. this guy royally sucked azz before he started hitting the sauce... then he gets all big/buff, makes a name for himself. where's the been the past few years, once they started cracking down on that stuff (and his corked bats)?? nowhere, fuggin NOWHERE!!

take a read of the article.... i can't help myself but to laugh at the first few paragraphs.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5335312

Outfielder Sammy Sosa is likely to retire after concluding that he no longer can achieve his desired level of performance, according to his longtime agent, Tom Reich.
IHT - his desired level of performance has dwindled since he can't take performance enhancing drugs like they're candy.

Sosa, 37, rejected a one-year, non-guaranteed $500,000 contract from the Nationals on Wednesday. The "odds are" that he will not play again, Reich told FOXSports.com.

"It's not absolute," Reich said. "But his expectations of himself are very, very high. He does not want to disappoint himself, let alone everyone else."

Reich said that Sosa would return to the majors only if he believed he could perform close to the standards he established when he was one of the game's most feared sluggers.
IHT - like before they started cracking down on roid-heads?

"This isn't a play to see what else is out there," Reich added. "He thinks he's better off not playing."

Sosa batted .221 with 14 homers and 45 RBIs last season in an injury-marred campaign with the Orioles. His sudden decline occurred during the first season in which Major League Baseball began suspending players who tested positive for using performance-enhancing drugs.
IHT - noooooo, really? coincidence? nah....

Reich said MLB's harsher drug-testing program had no bearing on Sosa's decision.
IHT - riiiiiiiiiight.
i'm smell total from his agent.

there's more to the story, click the link, lazy bastages.

Re: Sosa - retiring?

I'm very concerned.

Saw the thread title. Had whipped up a couple of "No roids no playee" comments.

Read the thread. Realized I'm an amatuer smartash and seem to be thinking similarly to Greg. Is there something I can take?

Sosa sucks and is an embarrasment to the game, ever since his little corked bat incident and falling off the roids he cant hit the broad side of a barn.

Re: Sosa - retiring?

Ugh, Ive been an Orioles fan for years, and I initially liked the trade that sent Hairston Jr to the Cubs for Sosa. As the season started (first 40 games), I thought, Sosa will come around. Next 40 games, nothing. Next 80 games nothing. By the end of the year, he had 14 home runs, a .221 average and a liability on the field. He may have had some good years, but he's done.
