Re: Kirby, thanks for memories

generally a bad sign when they do surgery after a stroke, but still, shocking
I always saw him as one of the last pure ball players who prolly woulda done it for free, he just seemed to love the game

damn, I cant believe that, I saw him get inducted into the Hall of Fame, he was one hell of a ballplayer. 44 is way to young for anyone to go.

Wow, I heard he was in the hospital this morning--didn't hear that he died. That's a shame. I always loved watching him play.

Didn't follow him as an individual player, but liked his name - Kirby Puckett. That is too bad he passed away so young.

I remember like it was yesterday sitting in the stands when he came up to bat and Kasey would call "kiiiiirbiiiiie Pucket" the crowd would always go crazy.

He was one of the best..

Hit's here hard. One of my hero's growing up, watched him through the minors and onto the Twins.. I was at Game 6 of the WS when he hit the home run in the bottom of the 11th to win it.

Re: Kirby, thanks for memories

I worked in the media for a number of years in the Twin Cities and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet him several times. He was always a class act and had none of the attitudes so prevalent with todays athletes. Top notch all the way and will be dearly missed by all here in Minnesota and through out the country. Rest in peace Kirby.

Re: Kirby, thanks for memories

I'd heard about the stroke but I learned that he passed away when I logged onto CS yesterday.

Here in St. Louis, we will never forget that he hit .357 against us in the 87 Series.

Kirby was a gamer ... he will be missed.

I'm a Braves fan and when that happened I just had to applaud because I knew good things should happen to players like him. You usually have a love/hate relationship in sports. You love your team's players and hate the opponents players, but Kirby was different. He was someone you could enjoy regardless because he did seem to love "the game" and not what it could give him financially. If more players modeled themselves after Kirby Puckett, baseball wouldn't be in the trouble it's in.

RIP Kirby !!! I will always remember you fondly and today my lunch-time cigar is in your honor.
