I love fishing actually! I'm not real good at it, and I just don't get to spend enough time doing it, but I still love fishing when I get the time I live right along a nice wide river too, it's almost a mile wide where I live. Lots of smallmouth & rock bass out there which are a blast to catch, along with the occasional catfish. I'm planning on getting out there more often this year.

Being brought up on the Jersey Shore I loved surf fishing. I guess that's why I still have the long rod's. I do like lake fishing though. I caught a few large mouth in the 10 to 12 lb. range. I just like to be out there and not have a care in my mind. It's quite peacefuf if you know what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean. If I'm daylight fishing, I wade out to around the middle of the river. I don't care if I catch much of anything, I'm just happy to be away from people in general for a little while. That's why I haven't tried to get a boat yet...cuz then someone would always want to come along I've not yet tried surf fishing, but would like to give that a shot someday.

I love to catfish in the summer!! Got out quite a bit last year, but my last trip of the year ended with being treated like a criminal by a rent-a-cop ranger who gave me a $145 ticket because I started a fire. I had no idea it was illegal & it took me several hours of searching to find the ordinance I broke in the books. Needless to say, I was a bit pissed!!

Ack, that sucks Andy! Hey, if you make it out here this summer we'll get some fishing in & I can guarantee we can build a fire along the river where I fish. My fire company owns the land there

Sounds good!!! There was a lot more to the story, but it would take forever to type & read, so I will spare you. I can sum it all up by saying the guy was a Richard Cranium on a power trip!! Case in point, he was hiding in the bushes watching us with night vision goggles!!! Mind you, we had a 4 year-old & 9 year-old with us, so it wasn't like we were smoking doobs or anything...He was just a huge prick!!

Unfortunately, sometimes when you give someone a little bit of authority, it goes right to their head and pushes common sense right outta the way. Doesn't happen all the time, but it's extremely annoying when it does. Live & learn I guess.

I know. I hate the whole "the law doesn't apply to me, all cops are jerks, he was picking on me" BS, but this was way out of line. My brother got a ticket for littering because his 4 year-old left a water bottle behind. He HAD to go to court according to the ticket. The judge actually yelled at the ranger & told him that he (the ranger) was wasting the court's time. He gave my brother the bare minimum fine & sent him on his way. I should have fought my ticket, because I know I could have gotten it overturned. But hey, I WAS guilty. It was just the way I was treated that pissed me off.

I love fishing also. I just never have enough time to do any of it. I love fishing for catfish and I also like to do salt water fishing. I live on the Chesapeake Bay so I when I get a chance to fish that is normally where I do.

I haven't fished on the East Coast in a long time since I haven't lived here for 7 years. Looks like I will have to start since I may be here a while.

Here is a pic of me from this past may Halibut Fishing out of Homer, AK. It was in May, which is early for Halibut fishing. This was the biggest of the day, which I caught. It was a 50lb fish. Nothing too exciting (I have seen a buddy caught a 185lb that I helped haul onto the ship). This was another great gift from my wife. I had a bad time at my job (didn't get along w/the CO) and had been off in Kodiak because of it. She won this in a local Homer raffle and gave it to me. I went back to Homer for a little in May (could only use the charter before June or After August) and used it then. It was a blast. I usually fish for Salmon in rivers due to it being easier when you don't have a boat! I hadn't fished for Halibut in a really long time.

I love fishing. I fish about 3-4 days a week, anything from wading rivers for smallies or spending a week in Canada for eyes. Alaska is my next big goal. I will try to post some pics sometime.

Whitefish, that sucks. You would think the rental ranger would have gave you a warning but I guess he wanted to strut his stuff. It is unfortunate you can't have a small fire while fishing because it is so enjoyable and the smoke helps with the bugs. Guess you will have to enjoy a cigar while you are out there, hopefully the bait is not too smelly.

Yeah we actually use a cast net to catch lake shad & then use it as cut bait. One decent sized shad usually gives you three or four good pieces. I almost always have a stogy along for the trip. A couple of years back, I was fishing at a pay pond in southern Ohio with my Dad, smoking a Griffin's Fuerte (one of my favorites), & I caught a 25.5 lb catfish on 8lb test. It was a blast...although I did have to relight the cigar

As far as the ranger goes, I am more than willing to own up to breaking a rule. But, I was treated like a damn criminal. I am 30 & haven't even had a speeding ticket (knock on wood), let alone any other brush with the law. I also honestly did NOT know that it was illegal to have a fire. When I told them this, they said it was posted all over. It literally took me HOURS to find it listed anywhere about it. Oh well, you you win some & lose some. I guess I lost that one

Bringing back childhood memories....

Perch fishing on Lake Huron all summer long
Pike and Walleye fishing every Memorial day on Copper Harbor in the UP of MI.
Salmon fishing with downriggers on Lake Huron

I could do without the ice fishing memories (freezing) and the smelt dipping (wave coming in the back of my waders).

Last time was probably before I turned 16 and became too cool to do stuff like that. I never claimed to be too bright!!
