Philadelphia to scrap the Spectrum

The stadium that opened in 1967 and was home to the Sixers and Flyers for almost 40 years will be torn down

I'm amazed it lasted this long considering the Wachovia center has been around for years now and is the current home to the Flyers/Sixers.

However, when the walls come down next year, one thing is gone with it. The last stadium to see a Philadelphia Championship.



The Sixers were the last team to win a championship in Philly, way back in 1983 (played at the Spectrum).

The Phillies last won in 1980 at the legendary Veterans Stadium.

The Flyers last won during the 74-75 series

and the Eagles haven't won a championship since 1960, before it was called the Super Bowl.

So did the Sixers with Iverson back in 2000 - 2001

and the Flyers went to the finals 1976–77, 1979–80, 1984–85, 1986–87, 1996–97 and the semi-finals just this past season.

At least we have the Soul in the Arena Bowl!

But, I digress.... Like the local teams here, the Philly has had good teams, but like you said. They choke. Do you remember the "Captain choke" posters on Lindros when he played?
