Rochester, NY wrestling fans - NWA Upstate WrestleBowl '08 is Saturday!

For all you CL readers who are wrestling fans and who live in or around the Rochester, NY area, NWA Upstate's first show of 2008 is this coming Saturday.

This will prove to be an interesting show. NWA Upstate owner "Hellcat" Mike Rosario has challenged fans from Syracuse wresting fed Squared Circle Wrestling (2CW) to come over to Rochester for WrestleBowl '08 and see who has the most enthusiast fans (NWA Upstate or 2CW). In turn, the 2CW fans have been talking a lot of smack on their fed's message board about the NWA in general, NWA Upstate, NWA Upstate fans, and several NWA Upstate wrestlers especially NWA National/NWA Empire Champion Pepper Parks and indy standout "Fabulous" John McChesney.

Add to all that, the inclusion on the show of former ECW star (both the original ECW and WWE's ECW) "Dastardly" Danny Doring, Ring of Honor standout "Havana Pitbull" Ricky Reyes, and the the return to his home fed of Colin Olsen, who has garnered a name for himself the last several weeks from his appearances on WWE's ECW TV program on the SciFi Network. For those that regularly watch ECW on SciFi, Colin Olsen has been appearing on the show as Colin Delaney, the youngster who has been interviewed by Tazz the last few weeks and has taken a beating each week from ECW behemoths such as Big Daddy V and Mark Henry. With the possible "invasion" by
2CW fans and the talent on the show, this is shaping up to be a very good show.

Update on NWA Upstate's WrestleBowl 2008 this Saturday:

On December 29th NWA Upstate owner "Hellcat" Mike Rosario, along with NWA Upstate Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Olsen and “The Right Stuff” Brodie Lee, traveled east to Syracuse, making a huge impact in Syracuse wrestling promotion Squared Circle Wrestling (2CW).

Hellcat and Olsen teamed early in the show to defeat the masked Wyld Stallyons, and later in the show Brodie Lee took on 2CW’s “Hurricane” John Walters. The trio also made a big splash late in the show, with Hellcat issuing a challenge to 2CW, challenging 2CW's wrestlers and fans to show up at NWA Upstate’s WrestleBowl ’08 and see what REAL wrestling is all about. WrestleBowl ’08 is coming up this Saturday night (January 12, 200 at the Dome Center Arena in Henrietta, NY.

Following NWA Upstate’s appearance at the December 29th 2CW show in Syracuse, and Hellcat’s challenge to 2CW wrestlers and fans to show up at WrestleBowl ’08, 2CW fans have spent the better part of the last two weeks on their fed’s message board dissing everything having to do with NWA Upstate. Their attacks have included the questioning of NWA Upstate fan’s passion for NWA Upstate. They have also been particularly hard on NWA Upstate stars such as "Fabulous" John McChesney and Pepper Parks, and have stated that NWA regulars are glorified backyard wrestlers.

A number of 2CW fans on the board have made plans to drive to Henrietta for WrestleBowl ’08, and have said that their small crowd of fans will be much more passionate and vocal than the entire NWA Upstate crowd.

NWA Upstate management is asking ALL Upstate fans who are attending WrestleBowl ’08 this Saturday to bring numerous signs supporting NWA Upstate and to plan on getting loud and boisterous to show the 2CW fans that NWA Upstate fans are the best indy wrestling fans in New York State.

Just yesteerday, 2CW management notified NWA Upstate management that they have officially accepted Hellcat’s challenge to be at NWA Upstate’s WrestleBowl ’08. 2CW’s “Hurricane” John Walters and Slyk Wagner Brown will be in the house this Saturday at WrestleBowl ’08. What will happen when NWA Upstate and 2CW face off remains to be seen. Be at the Dome Center Arena in Henrietta this Saturday to find out.

Last Saturday night in Henrietta, New York NWA Upstate held its’ first show of 2008, WrestleBowl ’08. The show was held in front of an enthusiastic crowd of close to 500 fans, who got especially vocal when wrestlers from rival promotion 2CW from Syracuse tried to crash the show. Fans let those 2CW interlopers know that they were in enemy country with numerous signs either in support of NWA Upstate or against 2CW. I personally had one that I printed out with Calvin (of Calvin & Hobbs fame) peeing on the 2CW logo and the words PISS ON 2CW. Someone else had a sign of Mickey Mouse flipping the fingers with the words 2CW IS #1. There are pics of the two signs below:

Here are the results of the show:

- The Dustytaker beat Dewmaga (Dewey) with a chokeslam

- The Latin Soldiers (Luis Whiteshoes, Maximo Suave & Stargazer) defeated Spazz, Mark Krieger & Chip Stetson to retain the NWA Upstate Six-Man Tag Team Title.

- Gabriel Saint & Cheech defeated CloudLee (Cloudy & Brodie Lee). Cheech got angry and walked off, leaving Gabe in the ring by himself after they accidentally bumped into each other in mid-ring and thinking it was either Brodie or Cloudy, Saint spun around and punched Cheech. Gabe was able to withstand a two-on-one assault from Brodie and Cloudy and got the pin on Cloudy with a frog splash.

- Sweet Lou defeated Eric Everlast when the Super Assassin & Triple X interfered and attacked Everlast behind the referee’s back.

- NWA Upstate Tag Team Champions Rhythm & Booze (Buddy Delmar & Frank the Tank) defeated the Ring Crew Express (Sammy Dunn & Dave Marcos) in wild and bloody Lynchburg Death Match. The match saw a variety of weapons used including bull ropes, a tire, a hay bale, cookie sheets, garbage cans, and a guitar. The biggest pop of the night was when Dunn & Marcos’ valet Nikki Jett, arriving late, ran into the ring and speared R&B’s manager Johnny Kayfabe, who was then laid out by Dave Marcos who busted a guitar over Kayfabe’s head. However this was not to be the former champs’ night. With Sammy Dunn injured an bleeding on the floor, Frank and Buddy turned their attack on Dave Marcos. They hogtied Marcos hands and feet with two bullropes and tied the other ends of the rope to opposite ringposts, rendering him immobile. Frank then hit a splash from the top rope and got the pin.

- A match pitting "The Havana Pitbull" Ricky Reyes against D-to-the-Icky was never finished, as they were interrupted by the apperance of a posse of thugs from Syracuse's 2CW who came out, with their self-professed leader Zachary Springate spouting a lot of nonsense about how great his little backyard fed is compared to NWA Upstate. The Upstate crowd was very vocal, letting the 2CW boys know that they were in enemy territory. Finally NWA Upstate owner Hellcat came out to confront the 2CW contingent. He said that if they wanted to prove how good they were, he’d allow 2CW’s two top guys, “Hurricane” John Walters & “Slyck” Wagner Brown prove it against the guys in the ring Reyes & Dickie. Hellcat then told the rest of the 2CW goons that since none of them had manager's licenses, they were not allowed at ringside and ordered security to get them out of the building.

- Ricky Reyes & D-to-the-Icky won by DQ over John Walters & Wagner Brown when Brown lost his cool and shoved referee Andrew Mollon.

- NWA National Champion Pepper Parks defeated Cody Deaner with the Pepper Shaker neck breaker and placing his feet on the ropes for leverage.

- NWA Empire Tag Team Champions The McCloud Brothers defeated Triple X & Super Assassin when Kyle pinned Super Assassin.

- Big Cat Lemer defeated Coconut Jones in a real mismatch which saw Big Cat toy with Jones by picking him up after a two-count twice before finally finishing him off.

- NWA Upstate Champion Jimmy Olsen defeated "Fabulous" John McChesney and Danny Doring in a three-way match to retain the title, pinning McChesney with a piledriver.

The next NWA Upstate show was announced for Saturday night February 23rd at Minett Hall in Henrietta, NY
