Frisbee Golf

It is that time of year again when it is nice outside and a game of frisbee golf can provide fun, exercise and a breath of fresh air.

Anyone else play?

Me personally, I don't have a bag or much equipment. Just a few discs and a pair of shoes.

Re: Frisbee Golf

It goes on the priciples as golf except you are throwing a disc into a chain basket. Once I started playing I found it to be a pretty fun game. And it comes with all the golf irritations; lose a disc, hit a tree, try to be cool and go over water [plunk].

Re: Frisbee Golf

My brother is a frisbee golf retard. He plays just about every day, 3 or 4 rounds on Sat and Sun. He was actually just down in Kentucky, they had a big tournament in Bowling Green.

Stone the heretic! You had better sandbag your doors and hide in the basement, cause Frisbee is coming after you! Trademark infringments galore here.

Don't tell me that you didn't know the PC correct name is Disc Golf!!

Give me a fracking break!! I've called it Frisbee Golf all my life, and got fussed at by some snot nosed kid last weekend when I didn't call it disc golf. He was lucky my wife and kid were with me, or I would have planted him in the ground in some remote location. As it was, I just gave him an eat chit look that he correctly interperted as he hastely exited my area!

I found a fantastic course in Jackson, Mississippi last weekend, and will be carrying my three frisbees over with me on my next visit.

I fear I will not fit in, though. All the guys and gals I saw playing had neat little bags, special gloves, color coded discs.....

Why, back in my day, we only had the one frisbee we could afford, and had to play in 12 inches of snow, with only the thin coat our mothers cobbled together from scraps. Today's youth have no comprehension of the horrors us old farts went through so they could have these nice cushie conditions!! sorry for the rant

Great pass time, though I've played for so long making up my own course (that tree, back side; pass thru the swing chains, hit the garbage can... etc), I don't know if I can complete a course where I actually get to throw at nice little basket goals!!

Maybe it was rjose's brother bitching at you.

You know, I just seen a few links that somewhat hint at this. I can never spell frisbee show I ran a search real quick and see some odd "it's not frisbee" links. What ever! It's a freakin' frisbee and a disc and I throw just throw it.

Yeah, I carry 3 discs and maybe a towel if it is real muddy. If no towel clothes work just fine.

NCRadioMan, you can pickup an all around disc and start with that to build a little skill and to see how you like it.

Re: Frisbee Golf

A curious thing I noticed in Jackson was that the disc most of the players were using were smaller, lighter weight discs. I'm thinking they were possibily rentals, and thus not much to them. I generally throw a world class weight Frisbee brand, weighing in at 175 grams. The ones I saw being used had to be no more than half that weight. So, I wonder if they were just cheap disc from the sports office where you get the course maps, or is there a reason to throw light discs. If there is a reaosn, then I have to reconcile the weight issue again, since I saw them using light discs for long throws, where I find my heavy frisbee works best!!??

Someone (probably Discraft or Innova) makes a line of 150g discs for beginners, I believe 150g is the lightest allowed by the pdga. I think size (diameter) ought to be pretty standard.

Re: Frisbee Golf

I play all the time in the summer, though in these parts calling it "frisbee golf" or "frolf" (?) will get you plenty of dirty looks.

Any other Minnesota disc golfers? Maybe sometime we can get together and smoke a cigar while enjoying a round at North Valley or something.

Re: Frisbee Golf

I used to play ALL THE TIME in my youth. A "Bud Tall" was the usual accessory, along with the various discs. Most of the guys carried a larger 170-75 gram disc for finesse shots (putts), and a smaller heavy disc for distance (drives). Those were fun days.

Irony is that I have a course less than 2 miles away and I haven't played there. Actually haven't picked up a disc in over 10 years...

Re: Frisbee Golf

I am pretty sure my disc weigh between approx 165 - 175. I believe I know what smaller discs you all are talking about, totally different play than the regular discs. Hell you could play with your shoe if you really wanted to.
