Talking 2006 NFL Draft

Do any of you guys sit around all weekend watching the draft?

I pay close attention the first day, but not so much on the second day.

I am excited, but... Charlie Casserly has screwed up every draft in Texans history, so I don't have high expectations for this one.

I will be really upset if they don't draft Reggie Bush with the 1st pick (since they have decided not to draft a QB).

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

Yeah... I'm going to be watching the draft on Saturday. Being a 49er fan... I want to know what we will do with our picks. Having the 6th & 22nd... who knows. Could try to get two great guys... or trade up.

LSUTiger... don't be suprised if they pass on Reggie Bush and go for that stud DE. There are some pretty convincing arguements. Then again... how often does someone like Reggie Bush come along. Look what a star running back can do for a franchise (ex. San Diego). I don't follow the Texans too well, but how is the O-line? I know that the only thing worse than the number of sacks Carr gets is the performance of our QB Alex Smith.

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

Texans O-Line had to be one of the worst last year, supposedly they have made improvements in the off-season.

I will be some ticked if they pick that DE

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

I've got so much yard work this weekend - but YEA!!!! it's gonna rain ALL weekend

So, yeah, I'll be watching Ted Thompsons draft this year and whether the Pack takes "the best available" if there a QB. Kinda hoping he'll trade our #5 for a late first round and a couple of others - man, we need the bodies!

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

I'm a nut for the NFL draft. Check the mock drafts every other day on footballsfuture.com and will spend the entire weekend in the garage watching both days.

The garage gets the annual spring cleaning, the car gets a wash and the spring waxing, and many a cigar will die a firey death this weekend.

I'm a Bears fan and hope they take an OLB with their 1st round pick now that they signed Manning from Carolina to fill a need at CB. There should be plenty of TE's to choose from in the 2nd round (Klopfenstein, Fasano, Byrd). another second round possibility should be a safety to push Harris and serve as depth now that Green has been traded to Seattle and Brown is only a sneeze away from the IL.

Of course the most interesting story line this year is where will the big three QB's fall. My prediction - Leinert (3 to Titans); Young (7 to Oakland (which would be a huge mistake IMHO)); and Cutler (10 to Arizona (or 17 to Min.)).

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

texans either trade down and still draft Mario Williams, or they draft Reggie Bush and trade picks and other players with someone. Either way, I don't see them holding onto Bush.

I think they're (Texans) gonna trade down and draft Ferguson. They don't need Bush, IMO. If they can find a way to protect Carr they will be
a real force in the conference. But, what do I know - I'm a Saints fan.

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

I doubt the Texans will trade out of the #1 slot. To complete a trade, you must first find a willing partner. I don't see anyone coming up with the ammunition needed to allow the Texans to pull the trigger on a deal. I believe Bush is their man and the GM's recent announcement that Bush or Williams will be picked is simply leverage against Bush to get him signed (or close to it) before they pick him Saturday.

Re: 2006 NFL Draft

No need for bush makes me believe they are seriously considering Williams. If they can draft Williams outside of being the #1 pick that will save them some money, and give them some more build from what they get from trading the #1 pick.

I agree 100% with you on this, but who will trade away everything for one running back???
Texans better call up the Viqueens.

Off Lineman don't hold high value unless he's a Pro Bowler. So really they can address defense and offensive line if they play their cards properly. They could take Eric Winston at Tackle with the 2nd round pick. Good offensive lineman will be there for the picking for them. But a few already developed lineman on the team wouldn't hurt.

Texans need to pick with urgency for what they need instead of who the big name is that everyone is after. Everyone would love to have Bush, and they can use that so much in their favor.
